I recently started juggling 3 staves, I've been using my double staffs for it, but i've been thinking of making ones like sebastian uses in this this video or like what rob used in some video i can't seem to find.

Anyway I thought I'd ask here for some tips:
what material should I use? I need something with enough weight, but also not painful to catch like wood or metal would be.
what do i use as a weight at the ends?
and how do i hold everything together?

these look cool, but i'm looking for something relatively cheap to make. 6 (good) clubs are quite expensive for practice staffs

try this then:

some tips on that design: rubber bike inner tube can be picked up from the trash of most bike shops. Put some sort of grip tape in the middle. I usually use double sided carpet tape under tennis racket grip tape. If you cut open the inner tube that would probably make a good handle too but I haven't tried that yet. MCP has tells us her opinions on handle materials here: [Old link]. Don't hit things with them and don't kick them really hard.

hi Poiboy,
Are you looking for fire staves or training?

have you tried the fiberglass staffs the amit is using?
I think they are pretty good for juggling, even thogh a bit too long.

Their length is annoying to me.
as far as i can remember they're rather bouncy, which would make incorporating contact much harder.

Sandy had a quite nice setup at the BoB convention, made from tent poles with a big foam blob on each end. Really light, cost nothing assuming you have a tent thats seen its last festival, and they fold up for transport! Really good combo for practice staffs.

Going to make a set soon I think.

They still had the elastic cord in them I think. I'd imagine he'd made it tighter than usual. I'm sure he'll be along at some point and can fill in the details tho! smile
