I have never heard of anyone having a problem taking poi on planes in their luggage.

What about staves? How well received are they?

Depends on the person checking and how much they smell... I've seen people passed straight through by saying its just part of their performance equipment, and heard of many people getting their gear confiscated due to it being a 'hazard'.

Wick is not flameable, explosive or noxious and here is generally no problem taking properly packaged clean or used/washed staffs on planes. But plane people are understandably nervous about anything that might even SEEM to be dangerous or a nuisance to others. Someone who tries to check kero smelly gear onto a plane deserves to have it confiscated! If for no other reason than it might make other passengers luggage stink and that's just obnoxious.

So, as has been said on countless other threads, rolleyes wash, and wrap suitably and check in. Staffbags are likely to be oversized and get sent to a special check in area. Still not a worry if everything is washed and wrapped. If asked there (unlikely) what it is, it's sporting gear, or exercise equipment. If they wave their explosive residue sensors over it, panic not. I have seen this happen numerous times and clean gear has not come up as a problem.

What to wrap in? Fishing pole bags make cheap good staff bags. Wrapping stuff in black plastic and securely taping works. A long cardboard tube with stuff inside works ( try fabric shops for the inners of fabric rolls)

A torn smelly cloth bag with fiery decals and the words 'Flamo the reckless fire idiot' may be less appropriate.

But don't try to take firegear on as handluggage because that is a whole other level of checking and staff paranoia.

Come on Thursday.ubbrollsmile There'll be people around and it'll be fun smile

We have access to the camping space and scout hall from about lunch time Thursday: the afternoon and night will be free play, and juggling TV with extra Kyle-o-vision!!!

What's juggling TV? Yeeeha vids and spinny clips (we nicked the name from UK Howie. Hi Howie!)

What's Kyle-o-vision? Also known as Hugo: a mad rad live interactive projection system featuring YOU looking like something out of Sphercular Vision on acid. Friday is another free play day, or day out in Bris... or helping us make soup... more juggling TV... Or you could practice Yoga wink

Train smile
From the domestic terminal to Gaythorne station takes about 45 mins (including an easy change over). Station is a couple of minutes from venue.

Here is a timetable If that link doesn't work for some reason, google QROTI (Qld rail online timetable information)

jarle!! biggrin can you please pm me - i need flight details (times, airlines, flight numbers) please!! then i can organise a ride for you! biggrin

bounce

same goes for everyone flying in & needing a lift from the airport!! biggrin once you've booked your flight - can you pretty please pm me with your flight details (as above) & then i'll see what we can do!! ooh - please make special mention if you have lots of gear or big stuff (ie. loooong staffs!) - just need to make sure everything will fit in people's cars!! biggrin

also - depending on what times flights arrive - trains may actually be your best option for getting to 2uberoz!! (train timetable link is in one of gabe's posts!) traffic between the airport & 2uberoz can be quite congested at certain times of the day & it might be quicker to catch the train!! eek no really!! biggrin

Yes really!
The train is not scary at all. They stop at 7.30 pm though. So my suggestion is that if you arriving in the daytime Thurs or Fri: take the train. We can easily pick you up from the local station (Gaythorne) if you don't want to walk the last few blocks. BUT if you are arriving after the trains stop or you have tons of gear, Gita is indeed organising a magnficent fetching service. Yay Gita!

Here is the Airtrain timetable If that link doesn't work for some reason, google QROTI (Qld rail online timetable information)
