OMG, just as cool as fire staff, threw a Siekh Ball that was on fire last night, so cool, think of it as Tai-Chi Hacky-Sack for the hands... So unreal, should have pictures after our next burn...

Yes, you won't find anything anywhere online about it. A friend of mine learned it out west when he was training martial arts with a Seikh Hindu (sp...?) and Seikh Ball is the name we gave to it because the original teacher was a Seikh, and you play with a ball....

Basically you toss the ball to person #2 across from you, you being person #1, then person #2 cradles it in his/her hand and tosses it behind her/his back, to person #3, who follows suit, then you start tossing it under your legs, doing sommersaults, etc.. etc.... yea so that's Seikh Ball in a nutshell....

yes and no, you're not s'posed to catch as if it were a baseball, you're not supposed to interfere with the energy of the ball, just participate with it....

I think it's 'catching' but u incorporate something like 'liquid' dancing so the ball is held but it flows around your body before you 'release' aka throw it?

That's the general idea i got from what you described...

Yea, now I just gotta fina place to post some pics, last year I actually got to play with/ or I got to teach some Tibetan monks how to play, totally unreal.... They love it!!!

I'm also working on a book on this Sikh ball, however you wanna spell it...

But as soon as I can I'll get some pics online, prolly end up being on a myspace account or something...

surely this sorta thing exists already...i used to play that kinda game with a football...it's just basically keeping the movement of the ball smooth and finding cool ways to throw it to someone else so i dunno if a book needs to be written on it... shrug

Well yea it exsists, lol, I learned it from someone else... I'm compiling a scrap-book, on our misadventures with the "sikh-ball", poi, staves, and beer, or something like that, there's a whole bunch of us over here in VT, who like just playing around, some friends want to do a video, so we may see where this little scrap-book gets us, i dunno... pipe-dreams probably...

nah.. as long as it's the fule burning, you can handle a ball of fire for a bit. Far before I ever learned of fire twirling, or anything poi related, (some odd fifteen years ago frown sigh) a friend and I stumbled on the fact that, if you doused a fuzzy tennis ball in charcoal lighter fluid, you could light it and toss it around for a while. You just don't hold onto it for too long.. Was quite amusing. Now, I do NOT recommend or suggest anyone do this, it was not the brightest thing in the world to be doing :P.

Definition of poi- A Hawaiian food made from the tuber of the taro that is cooked, pounded to a paste, and fermented.

Ahnold discussing poi - "It is naht a toober!"

We wear gloves, haven't gotten up the balls to try it without gloves yet, though eventually I hope to try it without gloves...

Should hopefully have a video of us doing it soon too!!!

Rock on

So you can do Fire-Sikh without gloves, I tried it last night, was able to get a few tosses without a glove on, it eventually started to burn so I put the glove back on...

So video time soon, how do you transfer a VHS recording to DVD or to digi?
