Ah yes covers, everyone wants to cover a song and hit sucsess a second or third time, but rarely does it happen. Theres a few that are better though, and theres a hell of alot wich are crap.

I think Frou Frou's Holding Out for A Hero is MUCH better than Bonnie Tylers. Bonnie cant sing! haha. Frou Frou's is a modern up to date version, more stylish.

For some reason, I quite like Scissor Sistors - Comfortably Numb. No where near as good as the original... but good none the less smile

I like Muse' cover of feeling good on their origin of symmetry album.

Yay! I loved both versions, but Muse is definatly better biggrin

OOOOOH, how can anyone be better than Nina Simone at that song? She made it hers, and it will be no-one elses. Ninas bombing voice fills the record to its fullest. She informs us of her past woes, but magnifies the beauty of how she fells now, "good"

There are very few people thats can say 'dragonfly out in the sun' that will make me shiver all over, and shes one of them.

Muses cover was good, but not a sniff as good as Nina.

i found the Metallica version of so what much better than the original

also AFI's cover of My Michelle by GNR was as good, if not better than the original, plus, unlike most other GNR covers, it actually sounds like the original biggrin

We are the music makers, We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams;
We are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

Hayseed Dixie doing 'Ace of Spades' hoedown style surprisingly works as in some alternate universe I can actually picture Lemmy with fiddle instead of a guitar.

Apocalyptica's string quartet version of Metallica 'Unforgiven' emphasises the song's mournful quality.

Disturbed's version of Tears for fears-Shout. also diturbed's version of Metallica's Fade to Black sounded pretty good.
Another one, Metallica doing Whiskey in the jar & Judas Priest version of a Joan Baez song Diamonds & Rust.
Panetera's version of Black Sabbath's Planet Caravan although with that one I like the original as well as the cover

Are you up for it?

Other than that, Nick Cave's cover of Let it Be, and the Dresden Dolls singing Two-Headed Boy are certainly up there.

Kiki & Herb's version of "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush is FANTASTIC!!

My favorite cover ever though is Dolly Parton's version of "Stairway to Heaven". It's brilliant.

Also PJ Harvey and Bjork's duet of "Satisfaction" is pretty awesome though mostly for the novelty of Polly & Bjork singing a duet of the Stones.

It seems to be hate it or love it, but I adore Tori's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It's what won me over to being a Tori fan back in the '90's actually.

Ok.....Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins' acoustic cover of 'Landslide' is the ONLY one I've heard that's worthy of that tune!!! His voice is so unique!

And the Atari's cover of 'The Boys of Summer' is pretty darn cool.

Also, the acoustic version of 'Wild Horses' that was covered by Dave Matthews....is quite lovely!!!

I could go on and on....

Oops....forgot Gary Jules' version of the Tears For Fears tune 'Mad World.'
