hi, i do martial arts, and i practice a lot of acrobatic moves, i was wondering if anyone knows of people (or if it's possiaable) to incorperate capoeria or acrobatic moves into fire poi, (540's, backtucks, btwists, etc) videos or pictures would be great, or text walkthroughs. if any advanced poi person (lol sorry i'm new, is there a name for that?) would like pictures of the aforementioned tricks i would be happy to provide them. thanks in advance.

Wow, that sounds badass. I'd love to see a video of that.

I pride myself on nailing my feet to the floor and do an isolated buzzsaw for the 4 minutes just because I like the way it looks. Sometimes I break it up by doing the weave fast. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I on the other hand want to move as fast as my poi doing leaps and bounds handstands throws and even attempting the butterfly with one hand and the other poi in my teeth....the moral of the story dont be fooled by tradition
break new ground for life is an expedition.

Dont get me wrong I love standard tricks but there is so much more that can be done...personally the guy who puts Poi into a janga for Martial arts deserves a pat on the back.

Don't get offended Iceman, UCoF tends to find anything foreign funny. It's sort of an endearing British Egocentricm.

I've seen a few people do spinning kicks or capoera moves while spinning. Don't think they're on HOP, though...

Yeah i am, managed to get into cartwheel and forward hand spring from 3 beat weave.

heres the science bit. baring in mind i plant the right hand first.

when you doin the weave, and your left has gone over the right and is on it's way back instead of bringing the right back over plant that sucka on the ground droppin your shoulder and cartwheel away.

momentum will bring the poi back up and spining into whatever you want. Handsprings abit ore difficult but practice just goin from 3 beat into handstand and flip when you can.

hope that helps some.

well, if you can do no handed kip ups try them while doing buzzsaws.
forwards roll+buzzsaw is cool too.
i think it works with buzzsaw.
ok now for the hard stuff(aka stuff i cant do):
i know somone who can do a no handed cartwheel while doinng a buzzsaw.
i think frontflips are possible while buzzsaw.
if you can do a butterfly twist (you are a god), try it with poi, not sure it would work, but trying never hurts.

i can do shoulder rolls from a forward weave. the chain is quite short (bit like me) so the poi does not hit the ground when you drop your shoulder to the ground. If you roll on your right shoulder the poi is on your left. When you roll back onto your feet (or your knees if the momentum is not quite there) the poi are doing a corkscrew with the right hand leading.

I have seen capoeria people doing a non-tuck forward flip (or no hands cartwheel) with poi. Had poi on either side of the body going forward and then when they flipped the poi stayed still as the thread went slack and then back into the motion when they landed on the ground.

Hope that helps/inspires

I was going to try learn butterfly (no handed cartwheel, but horizontal) with poi, but don't have nice weather and lots of space for it atm.

it's been done for decades by the Chinese with two 9 section whips.

I meant without cheating by wrapping them up too wink but that's a nice no handed cartwheel, wish I could do that biggrin

by butterfly I meant the move with the staff in the middle of that vid, it can be done with poi, one horizontal spin above you, one below, you see it in a lot of wushu vids.
