Ever spent MONTHS perfecting some difficult nitty-gritty technical move only to find that nobody even noticed it and instead everyone loves it when you just throw a staff in the air and catch it again??? biggrin biggrin

So for any of your toys:
What are your alltime favourite cheap tricks?

have a look at world fire knife championships,
they lie on their back and with their feet up in the air rest the wicks on their feet,it takes no skill or secret tips
you just need thick skin on your feet.the crowd go wild for it,thats why its in allegria the famous cirque du soleil show.
its also, i think part of the culture of the knife dance in samoa.,
so i wouldnt call it cheap but it is low skill and it is a big crowd pleaser

Butterfly stalls between your legs.
Spirals.
Wraps.
Catches (of poi heads).

All an audience can see is a burning thing next to your skin. They think its dangerous so they're impressed.

I aways find spinning a staff fast and spinning round on the spot gets a good responce infact any simple tricks while turning or spining seem to go down well smile

but in my mind burn off is definataly the ultimate cheap trick only takes 2 min to learn but it always seems to get the best reaction out of any trick i do.

Yes when they're soaked in parafin and burning! It'll feel warm momentarily but it'll pass!

The best "cheap trick" is the one you send the audience home with. For this I use the old "smother the wick in the front of your pants" as a finisher. Always gets a smile and a few extra tips. Of course finding Kevlar boxers is tough these days, so be careful not to light anything important on fire. The last thing you want is someone stomping on the front of your pants trying to put a fire out...

ooOOooOOoo..... Fire!

I have a cheap trick where I explain how you can only get 2 spins with a figure 8, then get an audience member to dislocate my elbow and do 8 spins with a disfigure 8.

It cheap but it gets a great reaction...

had a comment at a party on the weekend about how 'easy' magnet tricks were, and they were only to fool non jugglers. basic, yes, easy, no. it took me ages to get the motor control for machine and other similar style tricks. i challenged him to do ANY magnet tricks and he failed dismally claiming drunkness, yet he could do all his other (pretty slack) juggling prefectly well!

Definitly, the most stunning has to be a flower. Ive done a few (kind of messy 4 and 6 petal flowers) at shows, many people started screaming at that point. When i say shows, i mean going in my neighbors backyard and spinning while he, his wife, and his daughters watch tongue

"I don't know what you are talking about"

"Cardinal!!! Poke her... with the SOFT CUSIONS!!!!"

"Its not working my lord!"

"Have you got all of the stuffing on one end?!"

my best reactions are always for the simple big flame stuff.. lots of noise and heat!!! simple poi moves with double fire ropes and the odd big fireball crack, wrap the ropes around your legs
lately I've put fire fingers on one motorbike glove, freddie kruger styley
good for eating then doing a few blows off them
naff I know but you did want cheap tricks

Though easier to walk in the footsteps of others in soft sand - making your own path does become easier - and at least when you look back you know how far you have come...

But are flowers a cheap trick? I've not tried learning them yet but have always got the impression they're evil to get the hang of.

In juggling, my favourite cheap trick is a 3 ball cascade where you just throw each ball high, so you have enough time to carry every ball btb and then in front of you again to throw it. Looks like you've got this amazing behind-to-in-front cascade going on, but in fact you're just waving your arms about a bit smile

I find that spinning with a bunch of people at once, to just face each other and do a 3 beat. The light, or fire, can be really confusing at first, but once the crowd understands what is going on, they go nuts.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
