when i was filling out my hospital admission form i called dad to ask if we had a family history of some long illness that was written on the sheet.
dad said he hoped not cos it was mad cow disease!

And the Bovine one you named (BSE) is the term for the animal form of the disease the human strain is Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), which is the one Dragon was talking about.
