Circus creme de la creme

Circus enthusiasts are in for a treat in February when the finest stars of tomorrow perform with the circuses of today in Paris.

The cream of the international acrobatic crop come together at the Cirque d'Hiver ('Winter Circus') from February 3rd - 7th, competing in individual age groups in a spirit of friendliness befitting the occasion.

Young stars from such far-flung places as Beijing and Moscow are scheduled to appear at this year's festival, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Open to acrobats 12-30 years old, participants are split into different groups with 16-25 year-olds competing in the Cirque de Demain ('Circus of Tomorrow' and 12-16 year-olds fighting it out in the Cirque de l'Avenir ('Circus of the Future') category.

Meanwhile the Annie Fratellini and Yuri Nikulin awards are for clowns under 30.

This annual event, which this year includes a tribute to the old acrobatic circus of China, is a rare chance to catch the world's finest circusesunder one roof, whilst also admiring the young blood that will inevitably go on to revolutionise the circus world.
