hello! wave

Me & my flatmate have a gig in my SU bar to try out a new poi thing.

Basically we're doing a poi/uv/techno type thingy version of a mummer's play, which is an english traditional play about the battle between good & evil 'n stuff. But updated and it's going to be cool.

well anyhoo, we need more people!!! looking for poi/staff people in N london (or further away if you want to travel). And we're hoping it's going to lead on to more stuff (possibly involving MONEY eek)

so if anyone's interested, or has a good suggestion let me know!

cheers guys. kiss

I always thought mummers were people in disguises who would go to different houses around Yule and play music and dance and stuff and then leave without revealing their identity.
Are these related or am i nuts?

yeah, that's part of it. It's ofteb done around christmas, although it's mostly a general winter thing.

the mummers would wear masks and wouldn't reveal themsleves, and the play was always (pretty much) the same - a story about good + evil with good being St George and evil being a Trukish Knight. Not very PC now bt it's folk tradition so they can't stop us!!!

here's a script for a pretty standard one - this one includes father christmas which is a more recent addition.

You can also look them up by township. For example, I have done a variation of the Lutterworth Christmas Play, which was a Mummer's Play. Much fun to be had......
Wish I could join, however, just a question for those who might be reading....

Does this first one offer payment or room and board? That might encourage people to join you!

Good Luck! wink

sadly no.

don't expect anything - it would be completely voluntary - sorry guys, but i'm not getting paid either and i thought it would be better to be honest.

I might make dinner though - if you're lucky.

anyone can have a spare room at my house though, if they need it.
