if not 'tis tré cool. my only worry would be who would see the Led's on the fan blades? surely the fans have to stay horizontal to allow flight and therefore would point the led's up and down...

No it was not an april fools joke. It is a concept idea that hopefully will come about in a few years.

In that case very impressive Malcolm. The timing was just just coincidental causing almost a double bluff

Would the rims of the fan blades be clear then? I don't see how you would get them vertical enough for the LED's to show, they could raise slightly but would need to be fairly flat to gain any altitude.

There's a kids hover-coptor-frisbee thing available at the moment with proximity sensors and no controller but when used appears to remain very flat and stable reducing the visible profile when looking side on. I could imagine something like this with a light on the top visible from all angles rather than the fan blades.

No matter what, I love the way tech is rolling forward from a ball on a string.

what a cool weapon for a sci fi film!! add in some magick and an urgent need to save the Earth..no.. Universe, some crazy alien species to join forces with and for Hollywood purposes a love plot and I think we have ourselves a smash hit..!
