Hang in there! It may take time (I had a lot of more advanced stuff down well before I could do btb reliably), but sooner or later it will click. For me, practicing the 2bt for a while helped me get the rhythm, and exaggerating my hand motions helped with plane control. Good luck!

thanks for the words of encouragement. you're right, it's just going to take time and practice... I have been a fast learner with most poi stuff so it's humbling to run into something that doesn't come to me so quickly. and that's a good thing for my ego anyway.

I'm feeling better though because I JUST DID MY FIRST SPIRAL WRAP! it's not quite up to snuff yet - getting out of it is a lot messier than getting in - but still! I've been looking forward to this day since the first time I saw someone do them. I'm gonna keep practicing, hopefully I can make it solid in time for tonight's spin jam.

This might not initially sound like "Beginner" but it so is.

I learned how to do a 1 handed Static spin vs Extension....

... by tucking the usually-held end of one of my poi into my belt and holding the head of that poi and the handle of the other in one hand.... NOW, what do I do with the other hand? In practice I just patted myself on the head. ^_^

Split-time antispin opposites wallplane flower. Or something like that.

Look for Durbs' tuts on youtube, it is one of them.

split-time opposites is badass. spiral wraps, air wraps, stall patterns, so much fun to be had.

Wraps in Split-Opposites? How's that work?

My thought too - I've always done spiral wraps and tangly things from split time same direction...???

I've gotten them to work from same time opposites. You have to kinda get one hand out there a bit farther then the other to keep the poi from tangling. Had moderate success with it so far. Not enough to do it on fire yet. smile

Haven't tried split time, but I'd venture to say its the same thing, just put one hand about 1-2 inches farther out in front then the other.

I'd say the distance is probably determined by the size of the poi heads to keep them from hitting at the end.

Spiral wraps are tricky, not really done those, but other wraps work.

you know what, I was thinking of split-time same direction. I get confused on the modes when they're in a wall plane together.

ISOLATIONS! Now if I can just figure out how to move them together without the poi bumping into each other... hmmm...

I managed to (and it was a COMPLETE fluke) do the spiral hand wrap thingy... once last night... once. When I realised that they were actually wrapping around my hands properly I was like "!!!WTF!!!" and then they got stuck and didn't unwrap. But they did wrap... and everytime I tried it after that it didn't work, and I have no idea what I did to get them to wrap properly in the first place... *bangs head on desk repeatedly*

Will break it down for you some tomorrow.

The most important bit is to have properly clean front planes. It may also help to tilt your hands up a little, so that they do not fall off. To get them to unwrap, you need to make sure that you have at least some space for your hands to open, which means that you open them earlier than you think. The "What are you working on" thread has a cool drill from MNS that you may like to look at as well. Basically try same direction spinning in wall plane and switch which poi is in front and which behind.

that's why you're awesome, despite your anti-nutella leanings! smile

had my second poi class of the spring session today. learned SO MUCH. writing this down mostly for my benefit so I can remember what to work on this week:
- buzzsaw fountain
- horizontal buzzsaw, into corkscrew, and back, as well as turning with the horizontal buzzsaw
- stalling from same-direction buzzsaw into opposites and back
- stalls in general, especially some new stall patterns
- corkscrew variants (like turns)
- butterfly turns (which I could do, but wasn't good at)
- perfected my windmill (it was pretty sloppy before)
- worked with a mirror to improve my hip reel planes
- finally got ttn down!

uhhh I'm sure I'm forgetting something... I need to take notes next class, I forget all the stuff we learn. we have some awesome teachers.

Shoulder blade? Really? In a reverse weave you are more likely to hit your face (which fact I know only too well).

Which way are the poi moving at the top of their arc? If in the direction you are facing, that is forward.

But yeah, nice going. smile

It's nothing especially note-worthy but after having to take quite a few breathers due to damage sustained to external plumbing, finally found the flow for a 3bw. Was playing around and just kind of... felt it, and there it goes. Working on reverse now, taking a lot of shots to the noggin, but at least I don't need to have a 5 minute break every time I hit myself this way lol

it helps a lot. there are some really good videos out there, but even the best video can't watch you try a move and explain what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong.
