Just got power back on now.

All at HoP are OK, however very very shaken.
Having lots of big after quakes (even as I type)

I actually feel sea sick from all the shaking.

Chris had raced home to check on Kim (his partner) who was due to give berth yesterday. She was coping last I heard. I have not heard from them since but he said he would keep me in the loop.

Sleeping in our clothes tonight.

Praying for those much worse than us.

Update.

Everyone at work is safe, although some no longer have a home to live in. We are mostly in phone contact.


Tom, Chris and I were at work today, answering emails and making stock.
There are massive delays in getting supplies and now no petrol anywhere.

Kim has not given birth yet. She is 2 days over due. She is in good care.

Tom and I both have to bike to work. But Chris and a few others have no petrol to get to work and live too far to walk and no bike.

Huge shortage of housing and many people (including staff) leaving the city by car or plane.

I may have to start looking for people to work for me who are able but have no where to go to.

It is very important that business continues to operate as fast as possible for recovery of economy.

We dug a hole for a toilet at work and have been boiling water so we have plenty to drink.

Our postal and export carriers say they will be operating by next Monday. So goods/orders will be picked up then.

Many after shocks happening all day. I am on edge.

We are alive and we are very blessed.

Tom, Alan and I will be at work tomorrow working very hard.

Thinking of you & your families, wish I could be there to help. Seeing all the pictures of my home town so trashed hurts like hell, the images of the Cathedral hit me like a physical blow.

Just got a text message from George: his family and him are ok.

As a huge generalisation, those of us on the west side of the city are mostly ok with more of the same of what we got in Sept. Our house was assessed for being pushed over and rebuilt before so it couldn't get much worse. It's still waterproof though and we still have power and water the whole time so are pretty lucky.

It's quite strange though - I've been at work yesterday and today and while you're carrying on a "normal" life you know that about 10 minutes drive away that specialists from all over the world are rushing in and pulling bodies out of rubble. You feel guilty as a result and the fact that you might be a bit hard done by with a house scheduled for demoliition is well and truly of little consequence when others are dead and families have lost everything. It is a strange feeling.

And you wait and wait for the list of the dead because sure as eggs are eggs, there'll be someone on the list you know...

It's rather humbling getting messages from people all over the world checking if you're all right. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and wishes.

It's really great to have the specialised teams from Australia, Taiwan, Japan, UK and the USA (still enroute). Really strong bonds between these teams I think.

We're going to be in this boat for several months to come it seems.

G and I are sending wishes from Bali. Keep your spirits strong!

Sad news for the circus community in NZ, CircoArts, the only circus school in NZ has officially closed it's doors for the year. Rumour has it that there is a new location being scouted possibly in the Nelson region but wont be available for some time yet. First year students are being deferred until next year, second years possibly headed to Australia to train and 3rd years are being deferred until next year as well.

So long CircoArts, we shall miss you.
