I started with the Glow poi so I didn't burn myself alive lol. I've had problems doing th basic butterfly move. I'm doing it the way Diane says to do it in the tutorial but i still can't get it right. Believe it or not i can do the forward wave and the backward wave just fine. I keep hitting myself in the Jewels and I bought myself a Cup today but still worried, is that the best option or is there something better, cause this shoit hurts lol.

I found, that when doing the butterfly, there IS a chance to hit yourself in the man-bits. Also, when doing a reverse butterfly, you have a chance to thwack yourself in the face.

When doing the reverse butterfly behind your head there's a chance of wrapping the poi 'round both wrists and then hitting yourself in the head...

at least, I managed it. shocked

Havok, in my experience everyone hits themself a fair bit when starting to learn poi (I still do when learning a new move, but I'm a bit unco) so not starting with fire was a good move.

IMO if you're learning raw rice (or similar) in the tip of some old socks is even better than glow poi (because softer).

Seconding Jameth. They are also heavier, so you can spin slower.

Try pointing the right wrist up towards the ceiling, and the other down to the floor. Also try having your right hand slightly out further from the left, maybe a half inch or so.
Also i spun for almost 3 years before i spun fire.

Sorry, I called it the wave, The Weave is what I meant. I can do the weave already but can't do the butterfly to save my rear.

I'm the complete opposite... strange how our brain-to-hand connections work.
