I would like to announce that the move where you put your poi on the ground (or any surface) after a burn has now been patented by me. So has the move where you hit yourself in the head (or any part of your body) with lit poi. So, anytime these things occur you owe me royalties! wheee!! Raph

I’m with the Caveman. All the moves were discovered centuries ago. Sure we re-discover them, but that doesn’t mean we own em.

One thing that I've noticed is that although I'm with the general consensus above (moves cannot be owned), people do tend to develop their own styles, so it seems almost reasonable that particular moves go with particular people. This also makes them recognisable from a distance, in my limited experience. I don't think any move should be "copyrightable", but it is reasonable to say that I expect to see certain types of moves from one person, and I wouldn't expect to see those from others.

I consider a move 'mine' if i invent it and use it lots.. and it helps if you name it (z.b/ e.g my gilligan) cos i do the Kneller neck throw with a staff.. so i own that move. can you copyright or trademarka move so when people do it they have to pay you? ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)

yes, indeed any concept of copyrighting moves is as ludicrous as a shaved llama. Also i note the distinction between twirling moves, routines and styles. styles are inherently personal and are thus truly owned methinks (the copyright question be damned!) and individual moves themselves are more the divisible components that maketh up a style (like the firey letters that form your pyro-name) and are more conducive to imitation. On a side note, I'd just like to declare that all this is kinda moot in any event as Albert Hoffman taught me that we are not individuals at, but simply One Great Conciousness experiencing itself subjectively, so we but help share all our firetwirling moves... and here's tom with the weather. ![[Roll smile]](graemlins/ubbrollimages/icons/smile.gif)

i wrote a nice reply to this yesterday. then i pressed a button on the side of my new spangly new mouse, my browser went 'back' and i lost my post. then i did it again today?! stupid new microsoft mousesess - they haven't even got any balls... so anyway, here is a summary: no ownership. no advanced move is one single idea (like what mr tempest said). skateboarding comparison (again ![[Roll Eyes]](images/icons/rolleyes.gif) ). ollies and 3bt weaves. jason lee and the 360 flip. invention vs. development and prominence. sharing, popularity of a move and video. probably much more interesting to read than my actual post and a shitload shorter now bender, tell me more about this hoffman fellow... ![[Wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)

heh well there definitely is a consensus here about the llamalike insanity in the ownership of moves. If we agree on that principle, do we also all manifest it the same way? i.e. Do we all behave like no-one owns certain tricks? Coleman and Glass, did you know that he has a new album coming out posthumourously? it's gunna be called 'Shock and awe' yaaaaay! ![[Love]](graemlins/ubblove.gif)
