I have those, they aren't painful wink but they're very light and break in like 2 seconds. I currently use them for practice and they're covered in tape to make them not break. Also the string they come with are really short and sting and tangle up a lot and get caught because you have to do a one know at the end thing to lengthen them. I just ran a shoelace through the thing.

In that case I might stick with glowsticks, thanks for the info. I was hoping for something with less environmental impact but given they come with disposable batteries glowsticks might be better/

SpinnerO'D, are the ones you have also significantly duller than glowsticks?

Yes, the HoP glowstrings are quite duller than glowsticks. And they also stopped working after being hit together a couple of times, they cracked and it made the battery compartment not completely tight or something so it doesn't light up anymore. One of them does but they go out at random. They may be cheap, but they're not worth it because they last about as long as a normal glowstick before they break tongue

To add, last night I discovered the song Everytime We Touch by Cascada. And I'm getting my glowsticks in today so I didn't have them. So I grabbed some unopened HoP gliwsticks that I found. They were about as bright as normal glowsticks actually. But one just wanted to turn off every now and then pretty much out of the package. And they make an annoying plastic sound, they are too light and don't carry their momentum very well. I'd say the best thing abut them is that they don't hurt unless they don't hit you're knuckles, they can be reused as long as they don't break, and they're slightly cheaper than normal glowsticks from the store.

If you're going to do alot of glowsticking bulk is the way to go (we don't have anywhere locally but ebay has lots) which makes them a fair bit cheaper than the HOP sticks. Or if you're going for maximum impact use hyperlights - they only last for 5 minutes or so but they are bright.

The main attraction of the sticks for me was the reusability, in the interests of the environment. However rechargeable batteries would initially cost more than the sticks themselves, although they'd have other uses.

I'm not thinking of doing any real spinning with them, more give them to friends at parties, to mostly wear around their necks and maybe wave around for 30 seconds now and then.

Hyperlights also cost $500 a pair... They are super cool though.

think jameth was meaning ultras (a type of super glowstick thats really bright but shortlived)
hyperlights will cost a fortune but if they live up to the massive development time they'll be worth the wait...

as a side note you can actually boost the glow of regular glowsticks a bit by popping them in the microwave for about 15s just before you use them wink

depends on how powerful the microwave is, 10-15s i find is usually ideal(start off at the lower end if your unsure- you want them warm but not too hot to handle) All your doing is raising their temp by a few degrees so the reaction speeds up, gives you a bit of a short term glow boost.
if you leave them in for ages (like 30s or so) then they will start to melt and turn into a glowing plasticy mess, interesting to watch but not so practical for spinning smile wink

Yes, I was referring to ultraglowsticks: hyperlight poi are a bit beyond me. shocked

Glowsticks will glow brighter if you heat them, it doesn't matter how you do it: if you don't want to microwave them you can stick them in hot water for a while (a thermos can be good for beaches and woods).

The chemical reaction that makes the glow runs faster and therefore brighter when the chemicals are hotter (also they won't last as long).

I just got my glowsticks today, I cracked my very first pair of 6" glowsticks, they were harder to crack than I thought. They were also much brighter than I expected. They a don't hurt at all, I had a couple 3" glowsticks I got from Skateland and those babies stung like a mothercensored

And now I know that the HoP ones are quite duller for sure. These were significantly brighter and much heavier.

Ascilith, these are good quality glowsticks. I'd say buy these from now on. They're only 54 cents each btw wink I got assorted colors which is sweet. And I'm very glad I got individually packaged because the yellow and green, and white and blue look near the same and I only ended up with 2 unlabeled ones.

I can't wait to do this in public and for people grin Oh god, once we have a track party, I am being noticed. It will be such a surprise because I'm like that really quiet guy that only talks to certain people.

Tomorrow or the day after I will make my 1 week glowstringing video because that's when I actually started practicing it.
