be able to do everything i can smoothly without any awkwardness

learn head stuff and more groundwork

nail fishtail waistwraps (instead of it just being a crappy btb pass)

more horizontal to vertical transitions round the neck

learn more ohno and convict stuff (espec headspin into ohno matrix)

make all my doubles actually look smooth and nice

make some staffs to start juggling with

Okay, 1 month in... And I don't know if I'll be changing these goals... but this is an update to say what I'm doing about achieving these goals...

so:

1) yeah, this one is on track.

2) this one too... thou it's gonna be hard work. I might have to make the routine using video...

3) not yet... I have to train up the other knee and be careful with the 'better' one. Always making sure my knee aligns correctly, and keeping on building the muscles to stabilize it.

4) Yeah, I think the way with this is to constantly be thinking about your movement, and trying to be more graceful all the time, even during hardcore drilling of moves. So I'm going to try and do that.

5) have a few more moves, but none of them sufficiently outrageous yet... I need one that'll take at least 3 months to learn, never mind polish, and that's going to be worth it. (I don't think the anti-spin matrix is quite worth it. Or the vertical one.)

6) Well can only learn by doing I guess... This is the one that scares me most. Hopefully the two routines I have to make, and the duo doubles routine will add some more confidence and calmest to my stage 'presence' and add new facets to it too.

7) I think this is sorted. But it's still a bit up in the air.

8) er... well, working on it. I did get nasty shin splints. But They're almost gone now. And it's not patella tendinitis so all is good. But I do think I'll get it in my other knee if I don't work hard on it.

9) Not yet.
10) big not yet.

Any changes I'd make after the SJC?

Well I'm not so concerned with acrobatics and staff anymore, I'd still like them, but I don't want to sacrifice my knees to do it. If I can get my knees sorted, I'm sure it'll come in time.

Instead I'd like to really concentrate on movement aspects and changing the height of my body.

And I might put learning club manipulation in there. Thanks to sam.

Well, the weather has been crap enough to keep me from having the kind of practice I'd like, but I have managed to figure out a few of reverse fishtails with my left hand and one or two with the right hand. Forward fishies are much trickier, Im finding. So....if it stops raining for a bit, Ill be able to get out and nail these things to knock them off my list of goals.

Same goes for steves and snes. Still cant do a single jesus roll though...

1. Accomplish an exhaustive range of Dual Fishtail move and more...

2. Step out of my contact confort zone.

3. Do more with Doubles contact.

4. Perform, with competence, confidence and er... confidentiality...

5. Document experiments with staff stickies.

6. Find more 4-staff cross patterns.

7. Find a partner for two-person doubles routine.

8. Dedicate more time to learn contact moves in the OTHER direction.

9. More leg maneuvers

10. Spin on top of or at least near Ayers Rock.

1. Well, I've learnt maybe two or three fishtail-to-propellor variations but still having trouble with dual fowards!

2. Kinda - I'm freestyling alot more now. Aussie Style - 'There are no moves, just dance b*tch!'

3. See above but not as much. Focusing more on single.

4. Well, one out of three ain't bad. Seeing as one of those defeats the purpose of performing...

5. Me and what camera I can be arsed carrying around with me...In Sydney?

6. I need 4 same-size staves...

7. Always on the move. Bah!

8. Nope. Though I do normal minimal beat steve throws clockwise, yet FeiCha minimal beat steve throws anti-clockwise. Yet cannot interchange... hmmm

9. Exercising my sparrow-legs as we speak before even attempting these...

10. April dear... April...

working on keeping moves continuous but practise practise practise, and working on fishtail family.. which brings me nicely onto..
foot fishtails! which im working on. the tongue of my shoe is helping immensely at the moment but again with the practise.
no acrobatics yet but plans for two person performance using acro and each other.. should be starting on that soon. got the cartwheel pick up down though...

So... I started about a week ago. I figure this is a good way to hold myself accountable.

1. Get comfortable with the staff.

2. Practice a minimum of an hour a day 4 days a week.

3. Learn basic spins and contact... with good foot work.

4. Develop a style, so I am doing more than putting tricks next to each other (Didn't realize until it was too late that that is what I had done with poi... by which time I had gotten bored with it).

5. Find some people in LA to spin with.

6. Spin fire on the beach this summer.

7. Be able to do a 3 minute routine by June. 40% Spins, 30% Contact, 15% Throws, 15% Wraps.

8. Learn The Matrix and 3 variations.

9. Learn The Steve and 3 variations.

10. Build a fire staff (so I can put down the broom handle and towels I am using now).

oooh... thanks azadondo... reminded me to check in again...

ooooh... is it that time already...?

doubles:

 Written by : Pogo69

1) continue to practise

still being a good boy...!! check...!!

 Written by : Pogo69

2) make everything I do more consistent and sub-conscious

check, again!! still getting more and more smooth... lots of the moves are linking seemlessly... in the right frame of mind (altered state of mind, don't you mean?), I can sometimes get right "in the zone"... flow and stuff, you know?

 Written by : Pogo69

3) learn more antispin doubles stuff

check!! thanks, again dave... continuing to learn more and more... linking more too... antispin and isolations... do need to do more work here, though...

 Written by : Pogo69

4) nail reverse flowers and put more work into antispin flowers

ye, reverse flowers all good... forwards totally smooth... mixed (one reverse, one forwards) all good... moving between each, and opposite direction flowers in front plane getting better too...

 Written by : Pogo69

5) continue exploring and expanding on the simple things, like one beat variations, btb etc

ye, I have started on this... linking into parallel btb... then switching to whatever the same thing is called when it's not parallel... ummm, also started with one beat variations, one arm on top of the other (dunno what it's called)... lots of experimentation and lots more to come (meg's and some other misc vids will help me here if I remember to watch them)...

contact:

 Written by : Pogo69

6) start practising... anything...

occasionally... the mood does take me more often now

 Written by : Pogo69

7) halo 360 smooth and consistent

getting multiple complete rotations of halo 360/conveyor belt thingie now... not always, but... when it's on... it just keeps going... cool...

 Written by : Pogo69

8) steves smooth and consistent

nah... although... I can do it periodically... all the freakin wristbands still getting in the way... staff gets caught, although... I was able one time I was trying to miss the wrist altogether and just land the staff above the elbow and move it around the back of the neck... *shakes head at myself for helping my contact by compensating for jewellery*

 Written by : Pogo69

9) fishtails, at all

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY...!!!! finally... after giving up, entirely, I can do em... need now to work on left hand and forwards... also wanna work on being able to do them with the little double staffs...

 Written by : Pogo69

10) play with staff more in general without hand contact

some... sometimes...

 Written by : Pogo69

11) if I get through the above, try and link a few moves with the wrist weave or similar

some... sometimes...

oooh how do you cage a matrix
or is it just a matrix with your hands clasped above your head? otherwise surely your arms would get in the way.

1) Get rid of job, travel world spinning staff.
2) make super tech duo doubles routine.
3) Now that my knee is better, get back to the acrobatics + staff.
4) Now that my knee is better, learn better movement, and how it works with staff. (Post-wiggling proto-dance)
5) Find some outrageous contact moves to learn, that I haven't thought of yet and learn them. (I couldn't have imagined myself doing a head roll steve at this time last year.)
6) Perform better.
7) Go to circus school, or devote 2/3 months entirely to training. (Whichever comes first)
8) Don't let my knee get injured again.
9) Find some more illusions, or visit Simian.
10) Make those two new routines I've been thinking about.

1) started and continuing!
2) started and continuing!
3) Can now cartwheel and bend down without pain. WIN!
4) started and continuing.
5) maybe, the anti-spin (not anti-turn) matrix is quite fun. But lots of things to work on, none really hard enough yet. Club contact might be.
6) Still and always working on that.
7) Silly bastl, might be down to three weeks...
8) Working on it, thanks to various physios.
9) Kinda... simian doesn't have illusions, but he does have kick ass hoop dance moves. Have found some more, but they haven't been mine.
10) Yup, got a deadline for one of them... So it better get made.
11) triple staff and club manipulation. <- new goal.
12) better club juggling. <- new goal.
