That's terrible news, I hope the decision is reversed...

And Mark... sorry to hear about your accident! Hope it didn't put you off your dinner!

Hey there...spinner from NYC coming to Ireland, specifically Dublin for the next 4 months. I looked at the workshops going on and wonder which would be the best to attend for poi/hooping. I'm going to be in town starting on January 11th. Also, if anyone knows of any nightly gatherings, places to spin, or tips on not getting thrown in jail (seeing as how I came closer than I'd like in NYC) while still being able to spin would be fantabulous! Thanks in advance for any help!

Nope, tried that too.

It works on your address and which country you are a resident of.

If anyone finds out different, please let me know too

interesting question re insurance!

what about joining irish equity - the union thingy for performers.

http://www.irishequity.ie/index.htm

"Equity represents performers and artists across the entire spectrum of entertainment and the arts. Our membership includes actors, singers, dancers, choreographers, variety and circus artists, stage management, theatre designers and directors, TV and Radio presenters, stunt performers and coordinators"

it may be easier to get insurance once you are a member of larger organisation?!

whatcha reckon?

I've been thinking of joining equity anyway as I am an actor too. So don't worry, I'll mention the fire as a sideline.

Yep, try again!

I'm a member of Equity UK, and when I joined I asked them to check about the situation with Equity Ireland... it was the same story.

(it's the insurance companies, not the brokers, that are the problem).

But try it...

Can't hurt!

Honestly, as Clare says, this has been investigated - thoroughly - there is no insurer which will provide Public Liability cover for fire performers in the Republic of Ireland. For performers, yes, but not for fire. I've even discussed this with the Arts Council's circus specialist. It is definitely the case. Events can get insurance to have fire performers at their event (usually through PJT, the same insurers Equity use here), but the fire performers must have their own Public Liability cover too.

Yep... Thanks Helen

And I found out (to my considerable cost), that the one-off PJT event insurance can run into the hundreds of Euro.

It really sucks. Completely.

Best wishes

WERE ALL SCREWED !!!!! AAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH

HAHAHAHA it sucks to be a fire spinner in Ireland!
No insuarance, Loads of Rain, Little Dedicated practice space and Ronan making us all look like CRAP, I suggest we all uproots and move to somewhere WITH NO other spinners, plenty of sunshine, LOADS of fire performance cover, and plenty of pineapples...because everytime i eat pineapples i feel happy...and i want hapiness with my fire DAMMIT...

WHOS WITH me!!!!! Marshall Islands here we COME!

Why don't we just buy completely infeasible amounts of compost and dump it in international waters? Make our own little island populated entirely with spinners?
