Hello Sweeties,

The Tara Fire Gathering was a HUGE success, over 80 people were there over the course of the night and of course the fire was the highlight so thanks so much to those of you who turned out for it. Tara (that is actually her name and she's a Tara protester) said that it was exactly what they needed, a total break and a chance to blow off some steam after a week spent jumping in front of diggers and construction workers. All the protesters had a great laugh and they asked me to spread the word for the solstice. It's on Thursday 21st of June, and it's going to be big, big BIG!! It's on a Thursday, I know that some of you won't be able to make it for the actual solstice but they said to let you all know that the celebrations will continue till the end of the weekend so get those tents ready, you won't want to miss this party. I'll be adding some photo's of the Tara Full Moon gathering as soon as I figure out my new external hard drive so have a peck into my gallery.

Hugz,
Mairead.

Try not to do too much damage to the ground though

It's a sacred site after all...

Hello all you lovely people of Ireland,
I'm Paul, I live in Leeds at the moment, and I'm coming over to Ireland in a couple of months for a Grand Adventure.
I'm looking to see as much of Ireland as I can, do a bit of busking with my contact staff, probably work for a bit as well, and frequent as many pubs as possible.
I will be landing in Dublin early July, accomodation will be hostels/ camping, all I need now is a few suggestions on where to go, what to see, and what to watch out for. All advice muchly appriciated.
Thanks,
AB

Hey Paul,

There's so much to see in Ireland, it depends on what you like, if you like socialising and drinking it's Dublin and Galway mostly. If you like nature it's Wicklow. That's just off the top of my head, honestly there's tons of great places in Ireland. When you do come over you should meet up with us, a list of places we meet are at the top of this thread so come and meet up with us and we'll let you know what's happening. You going to the EJC?

Mairead.

i'd refrain from bringing a sound system to tara for the solstice. the annual summer solstice festival is a beautiful event starting at dawn on the the 21st so try make it down the night before if you can. you have the right to be there:

 Written by:

You may invoke your rights of freedom of association and assembly to be on Tara Hill for a day and a night under -
(i) BUNREACHT NA h EIREANN, to visit and enjoy National Monuments in Ireland,
(ii) The Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms
(iii) Article 9 of The European Convention on Human Rights.
Article 9 says that each has the right "to manifest ones religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance"

taken from: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/76419?print_page=true

.... but setting up a sound system could easily give the authorities reason to class it as an "illegal rave" or suchlike, & have the whole thing shut down. there will be plenty of music. bring drums, guitars, didjeredoos, saxophones, fiddles etc, but try keep it acoustic.

also, i don't think the pagans, druids, shamans etc who converge there for worship & celebration would appreciate thumping techno at all hours

info on this years Tara Pilgrimage can be found here:
http://www.druidschool.com/site/1030100/page/891947

love & light

?

Don't think she's being political...

Just respectful of a sacred site - something I think most people on here would support.

The reason the protesters are there at all is because Tara and it's surrounding area is a graveyard - it's an area that needs to be protected from violence and destruction (whether that's from construction workers and their need for a motorway - or loud music and insensitive ravers).

There are bones and artifacts in the soil, not far beneath the surface...

The protesters need good press and good publicity... to win public support (and they will be there for as long as it takes... bless them).

Of course, it may be too late to change the path of the motorway, but it's very important that their voice is heard in the best possible way - not through newspaper images of police having to remove some kids/young people wanting a 'phat rave up'.

Anyways... this is just a thought too.

Thing is, it's a sacred site. It always will be. You woudln't want to have a rave up in a consecrated church, would you?
This is just as sacred, perhaps more because of how ancient the site is. Plus, there are some people who frequent the area who would think of raving on the hill as almost as bad a road through it.
Again, just a thought.

Hey'all,

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get some kevlar wick (er, is it 3 inch?..maybe abit longer) in Dublin?

I am intrigued with the idea of visiting Tara for the solstice. Hope to see a few of y'all there.

Yeah I have to say I agree with Lisa, Claire and Wooky, a sound system wouldn't be at all appropriate or respectful of the site, so please don't bring one. And the protesters wouldn't like it at all, this isn't about having a killer party, it's more about showing a bit of solidarity to a group of people who have given up an awful lot to try to save a beautiful piece of our heritage. Sorry if I sound "political" but this is in fact a "political" issue. And Lisa wasn't getting political she was sharing some useful information, which by the way I quite enjoyed reading. Thanks Lisa,

Anywho what this all boils down to is:

Be there or be square!!!

Hugz,
Mairead.

Hmmm. We had a bit of a problem with the long grass on Tara for the full moon party, should I bring my scythe for the solstice? So we can cut a little patch?

Hey Wook,

Bring it along but ask the protesters before you start cutting anything, if they'd rather you didn't we'll work something out.

Hey Guys and Gals

Im happy to announce (quite late) that the galway juggling convention will take place on the 29th of June to the 1st of July

Venue is the Rowing Club.

If everybody could prey for lovely weather, that would be great.

Apologies for the the late notice. This is due to great slackness and general busyiness.
