These all sound great for your younger one, but maybe a bit childish for the older one?

clothes pimping and jewlery making are probably chool, but i don't know about treasure hunts and kitchen crystles.

in the same vain, but a bit more grown up, see if you can find some scrap metal or wood and have him make you some outdoor furnature?

otherwise, simplify. You say he's academic? go to the library and get a couple of good books? dean koontz and stephen king or something... have friends over to play video games and muck around in the back yard, using aforementiond scap metal and wood and build a forte or something... or piles of dirt to make bike tracks (depending on how much room you've got)

ben-ja-men that sounds like a really fun idea i shall look into it.

polarity as ever you confuse me with with your techy stuff(yes even with links to it) i am going to blame the lack of coffee

Seb really good idea, there is one spot where the 'not so nice children who all look the same' hang out... does anyone have any hand grendaes? i would love them to find them. only joking of cause

Fox its been a while hope your ok. I have tried mentioning books to my oldest as they are doing a reading thing at the librabry. he just gave me the "What are you on about woman" look. although he is very into darren Shan not sure on the spelling. although he likes the idea of the crystal growing stuff.. he's very sciency bless him. He's very into things that don't take alot of effort and he's not even a teeneger yet

shadow puppet shows are the best.
A lamp, a horde of toys or cardboard and a white sheet and you are laughing.

i'm very well!

just tell them to clean their rooms, and they'll go find something to do themselves... that's how my mum always fixed us.
