Bittorrent clients

i'd like some recommendations for bittorrent clients please - one's you've used and liked and why

this has nothing to do with the new psp i just bought

Hey there, I'd go for Azureus, its a good client with a crapload of options. Just google on that name and you'll find it.

If you're interested in getting files though other P2P networks as well, you can use Shareaza (Shareaza.com) for torrents, ed2k and gnutella 1 & 2 downloads.

I've found Azureus to be to bloated, but then again, I don't really use it enough to know whats good about it.

Let us know what you settle on, and why!

i use Bitcomet or utorrent, they alsi have a load of options

Bittorrent, is kind of like kazaa and other file sharing programs.

For the one I have used, and I think this is th ecase for all bittorrent clients, you have to look up the file you want to download ( www.thepiratebay.org is a good one), then once yo have downloaded that file (which only contains the information ABOUT the file you want such as the total file size and who on the internet has the file) you need to open it through the bittorrent client.

This will then set about downloading the actual file you want, be it a movie or a rip of an album.

I think thats about all the info you might want, but I probably forgetting something...

I've been looking for a file sharing program since winmx dissapeared, but can't find anything that doesn't require my credit card details!

Any pointers in the right direction? Or an exe file by email perhaps?

Azureus is good and Java based, which I like.

BTW Dunc, winmx is still alive IF you get some cheeky patch that makes it use other servers/ settings etc. My step father is something of a number one hits merchant and has been usinf win mx for aaaaages. Once it went down he found out about a sneeky patch and he's still going!

Winmx, may still be alive, but it's not what it used to be. I hoping more people find out and install the patch and it'll recover to it's former glory.

Can't fine lime wire without having to give credit card details and pay my 99p per month.

I didn't have much success with shareazza, but there seems to be something going on with either my ISP, or antivirus software ,, something to do with tcp ports. I could get a feeble amount of search results, but I never managed to actually download anything.

I use the basic package it’s free and dose me fine

i chose azureus in the end.

main reasons being the good help files (there's a wiki dedicated to it) and that it had some nice display options

i'm still having 'nat' problems (presumably cos i've not set up my norton firewall properly) and thus only get yellow smiley faces when i really want to see green ones

but it seems to be downloading stuff okay so i'm just ignoring that for now.

toby - i have used kazaa, winmx, gnutella in the past but i'm pretty sure that anything other than bittorrent would be useless for finding the type of files i am looking for now.

www.thepiratebay.org (already mentioned)
and
www.mininova.org
are all good sites to get your torrents from.
havent found a site thats good for really obscure stuff yet though.

they're exactly the sites i've been using

isohunt is good too but seems to have almost identical info to torrentspy.

i downloaded a snes emulator last night which rocks plus i got a ripper/converter pack with dvd ripper and a converter for video to psp so i can watch all my movies on the go (when the psp eventually turns up...).

it also included a .mov converter which should come in quite handy too.

hmmm... just use torrents for torrents but if you want a good file sharing software go for Bearshare its pretty good.

use www.torrentz.com and it searches all of the the torrent sties

yes but main filesharing programs such as Limewire and Bearshare dont use torrents and as i found has a much larger selection of things. mostly depending on your internet connection i would say. and im babling again someone shoot me before i start talking about Llamas! too late! did you know Llama backwards is amalL? what? what was that bush? because my names Amall im a terrorist? but its Llama spelt backwards! no you cant eat the kitty! bad! *hit*

I go for the open source programs because they don't; eat all your bandwidth, share all your files, spam you with ads, cost money.

eMule is simple enough, and so long as you can leave your computer running for ages (so you don't loose your place in download queues) can saturate your download bandwidth when doing a dozen files. You can always set limits on up/download though (and schedule limits so it can go full throttle overnight, but let you DL other stuff during the day)

aMule is a bit simpler and runs on macs too, and mldonkey is the mutts nutts, as it supports practically every P2P protocol in existance, the only problem being it's for Linux/BSD/OSX/Cygwin, and takes a bit more work to get going.

I now think this is the best one to download.

erm, can we e clear here that you guys are not going to be sharing files illegally, as this is agsinst the rules of the HOPbb.

And that you will only be using this P2P software to download files that contain no copyrights to them at all, like share ware progs, and trial software, and that of course you will, once the trial has run out, go out and buy the prog.....
