My theory is it stems from a lack of initiative and increased surface area due to wrinkles.

Ive thought about this question time and time again.
I came upon the conclusion that the smell old people posses is an 'out-dated' smell to people of our age. Do old people know that other old people smell? Not that I have seen.
Old people rarely change their routine and rarely change products they have been using for years and years. A certain routine of when one washes etc and the products we use, create smells. Im suggesting that 'back in the day' everyone smelled like old people, because they used that certain type of soap, and had a certain routine. The previous old people to them smelled of old people because they too had a different routine and life.
As the generations of people grew, they grew to change their routine and change the products they use to clean themselves and their home. Thus the generation smell changed. I find old people who have strayed away from the traditional soaps etc have changed their routine also, like my own grand mother, who does not smell of old people.
Because of my findings, I also suggest that we will one day smell of old people. But the scent will not be the smell of old people we know today, it will be our very own 'old-people' smell. Fortunatley we will not be smelling of piss, but the younger generations will still find our smell just as bad, as their routine and lives will be different to our own.

This smell reminds me of werther's originals. They complement the smell of piss very well.

and overload the younger generations so it is as bed as their at their age?
That made NO sense! Hold on.....
kill our sense of smell so it is bad when we get old and need our sense of smell to work so pee lots and over do it on the smelly granny spray? A vicious circle
