When you do a whip catch, if you hit the middle of the throw poi, itll double up around the other poi, then you just put ur free hand in the way when it comes around. Then you've caught both ends and can reverse it and it just comes out. Its hard to explain without a video, even then its a bit difficult, i'll see if i can put a vid up when i get it more solid.

I don't get it either but I'll get to see at Falmouth

I passed 40 beats of vertical propellor last night Won't be long till a hundred and then infinity...AND BEYOND!!

Got some nice contact transitions with wibbles and such that I'm sure you'll love Beth, we can trade tricks at Falmouth.....it's a shame Laura wont be there But it's her own fault for being so far away

Propellors and fishtails, wicked

I've been doing very little poi recently but have learnt loads of wicked stuff with 2 diablo, including a kind of buzzsaw thing called a Fan. 2 diablo is so much like poi, i love it.

Have been doing some wibbling tho. Practicing dibbling and tribling all my wibble patterns. Over the winter i did manage to nail my tangles as well. I can now keep a kinda freestyle tangle going as long as i like. The hardest thing is getting out of the damn things once you're in them lol.

Have fun in falmouth,

m

63?? You're making the rest of us look bad!

I've *almost* got that weird hyperloop throw with handle and end caught on the back of my hand move down, the catch is easy its just getting the thrown poi to detach itself from the other one. But while playing i found more cool little variations on that theme which i'll show you at falmouth

Matt, come to falmouth! x

63?? aaaaaaaahhhh practice practice practice

I'll get there

Still, fishtails are coming along a bit, but the description would be REALLY hard to write, take me ages and then no-one would read it or understand it if they did! Easier just to work it out alone I reckon!!

But I'll film a short clip of it when I get back to Graz and put it up on the website
Oh yeah - I've filmed some clips of the "basic" contact moves, so gimme a few days and I'll hopefully have links from the title page of this thread

Have fun in falmouth - I'll be thinking of you!

playing with horizontal propellors a bit more now

another stolen contact staff move:
Step 1. horizontally spinning or propelloring in front of you in an inwards btfy motion
Step 2. take one poi up to your neck and do a neck roll
Step 3. catch on back of same hand and bring it back down in a propellor
Step 4. take other poi up to your neck and do a neck roll
Step 5.catch on back of same hand and bring it back down in a propellor
Step 6.repeat steps 2 to 5 ad infinitum.

I discovered another cool horiz. move yesterday!

its basically a meteor move translated into poi and as yet I've only got it down as a one-poi move...

principle is:

stick one hand straight up in air
rotate poi inwards (e.g. LH CW as you look up)
let poi slip in a propellor movement down your arm to your neck
get timing just right, so poi slips elegantly rotating past your neck to your hip
catch with other hand BTB

can be followed by:

stick other hand straight up in air
rotate poi outwards
let poi slip in a propellor movement down your arm to your neck
get timing just right, so poi slips elegantly rotating past your neck to your hip
catch with other hand in front of your body

sweet.

extension on the sliding horizontal propellors i mentioned in my last post:

- follow steps up until poi gets to your neck...
use momentum of rotating poi to move it around the back of your neck.
slip poi onto other arm and along to hand.

the poi steve. (but forcing the poi upwards after the neckroll is nigh impossible... but perhaps with a bit more practice...)

Felt like bumping this, because I've been playing with more contacty stuff and would like to catalogue it here.

I cant remember what the devil stick move for this is called - maybe helicopters. But its basically when you...
propellor the poi in a horizontal plane and move it from above your head to down low, then up again ad infinitum.
you can also pop this out into a horizontal throw at the top.

NB. this move comes as a natural recovery from a f!cked up horizontal propellor - but it is different depending on whether you start at the top or underneath. Starting high is easier and you have to scoop your hand right around the poi as you bring it down, and open up again as you return upwards

One from the staff moves (have also forgotten name): (description for just one poi)
spinning vertically CW in RH
stick LH straight out to the left.
swing poi BTB and under that left arm end up end falling behind the head
use the momentum of the poi and a nudge from the left arm (it helps to swing the left arm up in the air) to force the poi into another rotation over the right shoulder and hopefully into your hand again!

NB. you can add the other poi into the move by simply spinning the other poi in the LH - easiest is CW, and you should start the move spinning the LH poi out to the side, and behind you

I can do a roll onto my arm whilst I am spinning poi in same hand . the real trick is to time a Roll as a pass to the other arm. so you get the roll going as soon as you release you grab the other poi handle, this takes some plane bending , but I have done it more then a few times . Roll from BTB to in front of the body and the roll changes direction like a meteor would. I can do ankle ROlls as well. I have done everythign Im talkign about on fire, video soon? Try a roll the same time as a same-direction pass inder the arm its rolling on!

Traps are fun. I'm working on a trapped 'weave' but i can't grip the poi in my elbows properly. any advice?

Hold your shoulders I can't elbow weave either, nor will I try as it would appears incredibly awkward to the audience.

Trapping is fun, but I think it's more suited to transitions than being an actual move in itself.
