we could start a thread on Lewis Carroll, instead of posting off topic among isolation problems..

thanx! that's just next book by Carroll i wanted to read
I could print all the chapters plus illustrations from here (at college) and make them deplete of paper.. *mischievious grin*

I've been thinking about something to do with isolations and stalls that would look great, but i can't get it so i would be VERY happy if someone who is better at horizontal isolations than me could please get it and then post a video so I can see if it looks as awesome as I think it might.

Ok, so one poi is stalling in front of you, just hanging straight down and the other one is doing a horizontal isolation with the centre point at the centre point of the stalling poi. so its going around it. might look a bit like a ufo.

Then after that you could mess round with an upwards stall with just a few beats of isolation around it.

I dunno, It might not work but i think it'd look pretty good, so someone get it and show me! I'll be practicing in the mean time...

already had a bash at that. I actually like to 'drop' the stalled poi in and out of the circles made by the horizontal poi. I like it a lot! Also nice when you isolate with a horizontal circular pendulum but move your hands so that the top poi head is always by your hand (if that makes sense)

I horizontal isos

I'll drop you a vid when I get some time... unless someone else wants to do it?

That's awesome, I will be trying the dropping. The pendulum thing sounds cool, I think I know what you mean. I guess I just gotta work on my horizontal isolations. I's just wierd cuz I'm so used to doing them vertical...
When, you're doing the h isolation is your hand above or below the poi? I'm guessin its easier with it above yeah?
Thanks for replying so quickly, tis much appreciated!

above=much easier
below= very difficult!
I do hand above generally as it feels nicer and is easier to hold in front of you

doing horizontal isolations with your hand constantly below the poi head severely pisses off god - he spent ages making grtavity work and when you do stuff that breaks it, he gets very upset.

just saying, i wouldn't try it if i were you

I like buttefly buzzsaw from normal to splittime to isolated and back to regular, i encourage all of you to learn this. and the reverse buzzsaw isolation is much harder for me to learn. The weave isolated is so very hard!!! I can do 1 bt of isolation on my revewrse weave on either side but ti doesnt cross over isolated.
those three beat isolated at the sides moves fond on mots place http://www.motsplace.com/poi/iso1.html is outrageous and I intend to learn it.!!!

wow,

thanks for resurecting this thread

isolation has been kinda eclipsed by inversions recently, anyone come up with some funky new applications?

saw some nice isolated wallplne crossers from a tall skinny italian guy...

OMG. Isolated crossers are like... SOO pre-butterfly inversion. I mean, like, you dont even need to be tall and skinny to do them anymore. Gawd.

Isolated insides is where its at

man two years ago is sooo four years ago...

no, hold on...

anyone else feeling old?

seriously though, after about 2 years of thinking about how cool it would be to spin everything isolated, it pretty much works now.

the possible applications of andy's 'hybrid move' still blows my mind

Snakes are close to full izolations. In the initioal position
of snake you get form straight arm circle, you continue with
the arm straight so the Poi head stops touching your shoulder
(contact point) and the hand continue with front wall plane
circle.

I found that if you start full izolation fron backward snake
initial position BTB, te Poi tale and Poi head both touch
rather lay on the shoulder so it makes is easier to
protect the head to fall.

The critical momentum fact make it very fast, so be
carefull wih your own head, especially with full
izolation from backward snake.

light,

:R

Hi, I have at least finished to edit the text I wrote last September about the concept of "implicits isolations" and here is the translation in english :

>> imakokode.org/PlanetsInHands.doc <<

You'll find théory about classical and implicit isolations mostly for contact ball and palm spinning, but also a very good Video with Pich performance on acrylic balls in antispin.

Hope you wont be to affected by the spiritual approch of some concept but I'm not that good at math this are just some thoughts, feelings and ideas, hope you'll like it

This more, for those who didn't read it yet, the basic theory of antispin for Staff and Poi :

>> imakokode.org/Antispinenglish.doc <<

hope the format .doc is ok for you

Imakokode-- thanks for posting those. I got a lot out of the Planets in the Hands one (the metaphor I always thought of was particles-->atoms-->molecules) especially since I've just begun the journey of multiball contact. Though this is posted in the poi forum, it was my cj practice that this essay was most useful for. Merci!

Oh and I appreciated the spiritual approach to the concepts, myself. These art forms to me are part of the weird intersection of physics and metaphysics there seems to be more of these days.
