Okay, so it's not the Pele we know and love. But I thought it was funny to see first thing in the morning.
Here's the article as it was at http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20020129/od/viagra_dc_2.html :
BRASILIA (Reuters) - Pele is negotiating an advertising deal to convince Brazilian (news - web sites) men of the benefits of virility drug Viagra, sources close to both parties said on Monday.
Pele's footballing fame, plus his robust health and high-profile private life, mean that pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc, the world's largest drugmaker, may have found the perfect icon for their anti- impotency product.
``In a World Cup year this is a very strong hook (for the product),'' said a source with the advertising agency behind the proposed deal.
Aides of Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also confirmed that negotiations are taking place.
Both sources requested anonymity and said they would give no further details while negotiations were still in progress, but added that the deal would be announced officially shortly after Brazil's carnival in mid-February.
The 61-year-old Pele has been a busy endorser of products since ending a glittering football career.
Health sector products on this list include a Brazilian-made anti-depressant and healthcare insurance.
Pele, who was a member of three World Cup-winning teams and scored 1,283 goals in his career, is still one of the world's most recognized sportsmen even though he retired in 1977.
