Cantara by Dead Can Dance, Love swining to Dead Can Dance. We use traditional Japanese music for Fire Fans. Have used TOOL, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, some middle eastern and Live Drums. Pretty divers musical taste. I just recently chorographed a flaming costume piece to Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Donia )0( "Where there is sorrow, I seek the flame." Rumi

Goo' call on the Tool and TKK! My tastes run towards trance (the Slinky complilations are goo', as is DJ Moda-Acid Factor) and techno and funky house (Cassius is nice). Check out Peace Orchestra for some really nice chill stuff (by Peter Kruder of Kruder Dorfmeister). My fave Prodigy songs to spin to are Smack my Bitch Up and Deisel Power (!). Basically anything with a good beat and interesting melodics. ------------------ Earth my body, water my blood, air my breath, fire my spirit

I'm with Jeff on the Goa trance. Also a lot of world music such as indian beats (trilok gurtu etc) are great and New Age celtic music such as the brill band 'Kila' are fantastic for spinning to. ------------------ "London is a city coming down from its trip and there's going to be a lot of refugees" - Danny,Withnail & I

I agree with Adam Rice above, "Talvin Singh" would be great and also from "Pressure Drop - Back 2 Back" is essential, and "Red Snapper" too

My contribution to the compilation would have to be Heatseekers' Xplicit(Club Mix) it's a mix of the openining rave tune from the movie BLADE. It's on Napster fer sure and it kicks arse ! I agree it's a mood thing - I can swing to anything with a beat. OK there are some things I WON"T swing to ... Anyone swing to R & B (Yeccch!)?

Well first off, sometimes nothing but the sound of the wind in the trees and my spinning flames is nice...also my friend is a wicked flute player...add a simple tribal drum beat, and you have wicked atmosphere for inventive swirly twirling However, I have to say, that I like twirling to the slower funkier side of psychedelic electronica the most. Stuff like Shpongle, Spaceships of the imagination and the like. I guess I'm lucky, I have lots of friends who are DJ's who play the music which I like. In this style there is lots of lines you can take in the music, rather than having to bow to the relentless pounding of the Trance Doof (I save that for boogying). When the BPM is down it makes it easier to 'dance' rather than 'bounce'...I can counterpoint the tracks detail..hard to do that with a 4/4 Kick going at 150 BPM Anyhow - One thing I CANT Poi to, is brainless music. Most Drum and Bass, and Nu-NRG would definitely fall into this category for me. And if you come near me with your top 40 CD's be prepared to watch a CD player get destroyed by a machinegun like barrage of fire poi Ppl! there are better ways to kill your brain cells than listening to Britney Spears! *jk* np: Pleidians

I've made compilations of my fave poi choons. As i dj Deep, psychedelic Trance and Techno, its mostly slower more intence tunes. I cant poi to drum and bass, (and the usuall pants like, R'n'B,pop or UK Garage) at all but when im not practicing and am doin fire, I love the tribal atmosphere created by drummers. If your into your tougher style of trance check out this choon ironically called,"Trippy" by 'Nick Sentience", its my poi choon at the moment.

Hey there! I just thought I'd bump this up to the top, since people have been asking about music lately, and I've wanted to post on the topic myself... hope nobody minds! I'm just starting out at poi, so I haven't really put anything together with music formally yet (just a little practicing to music) but there are several artists/pieces that I really envision spinning to, so I thought I'd share them with you! The Cruxshadows Gothic/Darkwave/Synthpop band from Florida. Really great stuff - if I had to pick one band to spin to, it'd be the Cruxshadows... their music is fastpaced, intriguing and multilevelled (they have some slower songs too) you can listen to some of their music here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/59/dancing_ferret_discs_inc.html Tapping the Vein Another gothy band.. this time from Philly. (They considere themselves "alternative rock," but most people you talk to would label them goth.) Passionate music with lush female vocals. Their song that I'd love to spin to is "Butterfly," from their first CD. Listen to them here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/64/tapping_the_vein.html Loreena McKennitt I agree! Loreena would be great to spin to... "Santiago" comes to mind... Ashley MacIsaac Crazy fiddler from Nova Scotia... many of his CD's are beautiful, traditional music, but I'd like to spin to some of the music on "Hi, How Are You Today," in which he brilliantly abuses traditional instruments to create crazy fast-paced music that I don't even know how to classify. You can preview his albums here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/c5000/ASHLEYMACISAAC_5000515.html Sting - "Desert Rose" Just seems like this song would be really beautiful to spin to. Anyway.. there's my 2 cents.. I know some of these artists are kinda obscure, which is why I wanted to mention them to you all and give you a place to sample their music. If you're looking to buy any CD's from these artists, and you're having a hard time finding them, I highly recommend IsoTank: http://www.isotank.com (I know they carry The Cruxshadows, Tapping the Vein and Loreena McKennitt, and I believe they can order anything they don't normally carry for you.)
Have fun, everyone!

If you want fiddles. You should try the Levellers. Jon Sevink is one of the finest fiddle players in the world. I would recommend "What You Know". Personally, whilst practicing, I currently spin to:
- Lab4 - Rock the House
- Pransterz & Dynamic Intervention - Motherfucker DJ
- Marco V - GODD (Innercity Mix)
- Psychaos - Mad Man Scratchy
- Psychaos - Chaos To Order
- Lab4 - Machine
- Fractal Glider - Chasing Ganesha
- OS1 - Bouncing Bass
- Lab4 - Dreamland
- Hallucinogen - Trancespotter
- Magnum Force - Unlucky Punk
And an S4 track that I don't know the name of. [This message has been edited by Cantus (edited 18 March 2002).]

I like The Herbalizer. Plus anybody else on Ninjatunes. It's the one record label I've found, that has consistantly good artists right across the board. Herbalizer, Coldcut, Mr Scruff, Dj Food, Funky Porcini etc. Can't fault any of them. I saw Red Snapper last summer. I can't say i was very impressed by them.

Hey everybody, I just figured i'd toss in my suggestion(s) for music. Now, I don't know who either of these songs are by, but they're both pretty good, and kinda different: I'm sure most of you are familiar with the Guy Richie movie 'Snatch.' Tracks 2 and 3 on the soundtrack are great. Track 2 (really the first song on the cd, track 1 is just brad pitt babble) is the song played over the opening credits w/ a simple bass line, and track 3 is a little harder w/ more distortion and a really quiet, creepy section. I'm sure you can find them on napster or some similar program. ~mx
