My flowers need enough work without me dreaming further, but hey...

how about using a 'snake' motion (rotations of the elbow) to massively increase their depth...?

potentialy you have all flower types using the elbow as the 'stationary centre' - which opens up 'flowers squared' I suppose, if you start moving the elbow... could kinda look like a fractal.

also, you have all flower types as normal, but using the elbow as the centre point of the 'little' circles.

both these ideas also give more scope for 'overlapping' trails as the 'little' circles can / should cross each other when at 180 degrees.

should be nice....

Jo

I likeses Flowers and was having difficulty learning all the combos. Now yo've gone and wrecked it for me as I have even more to learn

( But thanks anyway )

So you could do weave direction with your poi, butterfly direction with your arms and weave direction with your elbows! ARGH!

Antispin turning flowers confuse my head enough! This is a going to be a severe mind wrecker!

its a nice idea,

there is a little problem tho...

elbow snakes only work inside, that is to say if your holding your right arm straight out you can only turn the hand ina caircl to the left of your elbow, not the right.

now hold your hand above your head, and turn from the elbow...

wheres the poi going? into your neck thats where.

it woould have to be a full on snake, with the poi head pointing towards the elbow. props if you can do this, cos ive never seen anyone pull off convincing snakes with more than one poi, and i been working on them for a couple of years now.

mind you, i bet theres a few peaple out there got it down...

takkit easy.

Hi Nx,

i know exactly what you're saying, but a full 'arm motion' is definitely possible with a bit of contortion inside or outside (especially if turning with it).

because only the 'arm' part of the snake is applicable, not the complex inversion/isolatoion nature of the original move group, present poi snakes I've seen aren't (fully) relavent to this concept (although yummy if those too )

very difficult concept to figure out physically, but - definitely - possible (with a decade or two practice anyways... )

Jo.

PS 'Italian job' sound awesome! Hope you enjoy!

Since being taught Club Snakes by Josh (Thank you ) I've been trying to get it with poi.

To get the centre of isolation at the elbow is damn hard! I can get the first bit sometimes but I reckon it's gonna be one of those long haul things. Maybe in a couple of years for me if I'm lucky.

As flowers are my current obsession, I'm very intrigued by this thread...but I'm having a hard time picturing the snaking movement you're all going on about. Are you actually bending the elbow? Or "isolating" your arm so the elbow is the center of rotation rather than the shoulder? Confuzzled, confuzzled I am...

ok....

snakes are an old, old clubs move.

Basically if you hold your arm out straight to the side with a a club resting on it (handle in hand, body on arm) that is the starting point for a basic snake.

you are then simply(ish) swinging your forearm (club attatched) in circles, elbow still (club isolates at the elbow)

in this context though, I'm only refering to the arm motion (elbow still, forearm circles)

little flowers... get it?

then those little flowers can be moved in flowers (or however) to do mad, mad things with the trail.

make sense?

Jo.

I was thinking of bending the elbow and spinning faster to get 16 rotation points in there... the standard 4 flower ones and then 4 different elbow positions at each of those. I really don't have time to do this, nor the flexibility...

Three days ago, I hung up my poi,," That's it ",,, I told myself,, , " I'm spun out" I avowed that neither poi nor staff will touch these fingers until Wednesday,,giving me ample time to explore what some people refer to as " other things in life "

I was doing o.k., this morning after making my cup of tea, I just threw the tea bag in the garbage,,without spinning off the excess, I managed to brush my teeth without finger spinning my toothbrush.

And then,,,,,I read this thread...I told myself " It probably won't work" as I shut off the computer and started walking downtown. For some unexplained reason my forearm started rotating at the elbow,,and then my shoulder got into it, and I found myself walking through the park like some sort of spastic one winged bird.

"It's all right" I tried to reassure myself ,,,but I couldn't help wondering just how well a fresh thin cedar branch with a little tuft of greenery on the end might behave if I........

I let it go, did the things I had to do, and came home only to notice a lone shaft of sunlight making it's way through a tiny hole in the curtain and illuminating the one little piece of glitter left on my practice poi.

Temptation got the best of me,,," just a few minutes,,,that's all, then I'll put them down" I said to the cat, who was the only witness to my transgression.

I started spinning my elbow, got the shoulder going and tried to work in my wrist,,and,,and,,,OMG! I nailed isolations. I've been working on these things for two months. and thanks to this thread it happened. I'm scared to go out and try again, in case it was all some sort of cruel hallucination,,,but I am soooooo tempted.

I still can't turn an antispin flower though.

Wow Stout that's great I'm so pleased

yeah, if you ask me....

...and I'm about to write a thread saying so....

the elbows are generally underused since the days of clubs and....

...THEY are the key to UTTER insanity.

Have a look here.
It's a pdf, so it might take a while to load, but it'll show you how to do snakes with clubs.

Also, while you're at it, you might as well look at the whole book, it's got some very interesting things in.

What a beautiful photo.

More on the snake theme.

Does anybody remember the Middle Eastern dance techniques that Gnarly Cranium posted on these boards about a month ago?

I do, and she had a description of a move called snake arms, sort of a ripple passing from one hand to the other with the arms outstretched. I'm thinking flowers are a great place to try this.

You're spinning a flower, and as the poi hit the horizontal plane ,,,stop them for a circle or two and throw in a snake arms. Might be a a way to go from a regular flower to an antispin,,or stop,,,, do a snake arms, ,,,,do a turn, stop and do another snake arms facing the other direction.

Seems to work o.k. without poi

ugh, so, nick goes ahead and does it with glowsticks... so difficult...

Of course, you can halfass it like in my gallery,
http://www.homeofpoi.com/gallery/showpho...=500&page=1

By not rotating one of your arms to full length. I've yet to do this utilizing the elbow however.
