Buzzsaw & Isolations... Find similar topicfind similar
We are talking about this Online resource

sorry, i know people've talked about these moves before - I've looked in the search function, but it's still damn confusing figuring these moves out.

Buzzsaw's and isolations are different separate moves are they?

does anyone know any clips of a buzzsaw or isolations?

is a buzzsaw just like spinning normally except that the poi spin on the inside of your arms as opposed to the outside (i.e. left poi spinning past the right side of your left wrist...)

it's so difficult describing moves without seeing them.

cheers

Buzzsaw is exactly as you describe it.
Isolations are... um... wierd. and hard.

They involve shifting the centre of rotation from the handle (where it usually is) to halfway up the chain (so the handle and the wick are both rotating around the centre of the chain).

Apparently Glass does them on his contact staff video (I dunno cos I can't download the DivX codec at work)

Alternatively you could come to Spittalifields on tuesday nights and get someone who knows how to do them (ie. not me) to show you.

no I don't. [Wink]
But there is a video of me doing isolations somewhere.
like simian says:
Buzzsaw Isolations Like a buzzsaw, but the poi spin around the middle of the string rather than your hands. Hands and poi both move around the outside of the circle.
continuous.
Part of a family of "taking the weight off moves"
They're REALLY hard to learn, a real mission.
And for my next trick:
a Isolation-Buzzsaw-fountain [Wink]
see you around london.

isolations- the easy way

take a hammer. flip it in the air. see how the weighted end "stays in one place" and the handle moves around it?

now do that with the poi. [Big Grin]

nice one,

cheers guys, that's what i wanted to know.

yeah, i've been once to the spitalfields thing... i keep on meaning to go again, i will do sometime soon

has anyone seen someone do an isolation where they can keep the poi in the centre of the circle and have their hands going round the outside of the circle? is that even possible according to physics? it'd look amazing if you could do it - the poi would just be 'stationary' in mid air, anyway, so is that possible?

hell yeah. you can even make the isolation walk up and down your chain, hyperloop it at varying lengths, butterfly two isolations, weave two isolations, etc, isolate btb between the legs so the fire burns your willy, isolate around your neck, isolate and recoil, isolate recoil and throw, isolate one poi around the other that is going normally, look sexy audience member (dude he said member) in the eye and isolate the poi so it stops right between your lines of sight, *gasp*
get the idea?

that would mean extremly short poi!

I can do an isolation on either side as part of a weave which is probably the easiest one to get... if your poi are any longer than mine though (about a foot) it gets progressively harder to move your arms around the centre of rotation [Smile]

Come along to Spitalfields, either I or someone else can show you.

this weeks new trick
continuous Isolation-Buzzsaw-fountain [Razz] admittedly its still a bit shakey. (using 12 beat fountain)

sacha: the poi heads would have to bounce up and down vertical a bit, canot be fixed in space.

dude, i got one thing to say.

airwrap those buzzsaw isolations! i working on fountain for that. tuff? yup! fun! yup!

okay two. you _can_ make the poi stay in one place for at least 1 isolation beat (beat timewise), i can do mre sloppy as hell. but i can't make the chain stay straight and still do it. yet. [Razz] left hand is tough, too. and yes, you need shrt chains, 2-2.5 feet. isolate/flip the poi up to an isolated stall with a little momentum left in the wick, so the wick is rotating around itself. pull the hand to a point about 10:00 over it, and- this part happens all at once- use the chain to pull slightly on the wick to pull it up, another slight stall i guess you could say, and then continue the circle with your hand. i guess it's more of controlled stalls.

Yeah, so it seems like every time I learn a new technique I become enthralled with it for days at a time. Last month it was extra beats on weave, windmill and corkscrew, then btb weaves, then hyperloops and now my playing around with stalls has introduced me to the wonderful world of isolations. My chains are too long to do the buzzsaw type, but I've gotten a nice looking bfly double isolation (one beat of both isolated, one beat normal, etc).

I'm just learning these, so doing more than a few isolation beats in a row is a little tough, but a bigger problem is that if I do isolation with one poi then I have to do it with the other. I don't yet have the coordination to do them at different times. Also I was wondering if a move Sage does is actually a pair of isolations...in COL2 and probably her other videos she goes from a normal weave into a move where each poi is on its respective side and they seem to "delay" before going back into the weave. This whole isolation thing is really screwing around with my sense of timing. I like it though, it adds a lot more style and is a great way to change tempo.

i don't reckon it is.
just my opinion but the forces required to keep a poi stationary in this position would mean ridiculously fast circles with short poi and the most accurate muscles in the world.

so can any of you isolation doers out there manage a 90 degree gap rather than a 180deg one? i've been trying with zero success.

it feels so unnatural that my body has become confused and has begun developing gills on the off chance that they might help.

yo,

I been getting the isolation buzzsaw recently and I got two things to add.

1: isolationjs are much easier with poi that have very heavy heads and light strings.

2: I think what he means by a 90 degree gap is that instead of the isolation going together, oppisite wick to opposit hand, but in a cross sopinning isolation, that has been happening to me quite a lot, but by accident.

90deg gap: with normal isolations the poi heads and your hands are 'in line' ie. the left hand poi sits next to your right hand and vice versa. this is a 180 deg gap.

when you do this normal isolation, it looks like your hands are turning a crank with handles at opposite sides of the circle eg. at six and tweleve on a clock.

what i'm talking about are isolations with your hands 90deg apart eg. starting at nine and twelve on a clock. if it is possible to learn [umm] , it will look like a spinning cross. get it?
