Wraps aren't my thing but this one i love...

I was turning from BTB foward weave to BTB reverse weave and accidentally did a double wrap around the upper part of my arm, took me a while to do it again. Basically start out doing a fowrad BTB weave and when your left poi is on the right side, let it revolve once and then on the upswing, do a single/double wrap around well i guess its more of an armpit wrap... if you are female, pleeeease be careful... im probably not going to be able to breast feed on one side

I was also thinking that perhaps you could wrap both poi.. one armpit wrap and maybe a bent elboe thing and then continue doing a BTB weave in the opposite direction? hmmm... again, wraps arent my thing so for any of you pros that have variations, please let me.

hehe, im so obnoxiously proud of my new move

I love this thread... my friends and family who are tired of listening to all my boasting love this thread too

Hahahaha!

I do staff twirling quite a bit now, and I've always found it easy and fun. The other day I was twirling while my friend was spinning poi. I did a weave move and he looked at me oddly.
"That's a five-beat weave" he said
"is it?" was my reply
"yea. do it again"
I repeated the move. Then found about forty different ways to do a three-beat weave with a staff.
I suggest you all try it....it's a lot of fun.

Oh yes...I also figured out that using a staff makes it possible to do unlimited-beat weaves. Just add drop-spins or finger-rolls at the sides....cheesy I know, but fun to imagine a 10973-beat weave.

i'm still trying to get this move perfect, but it requires more wrapping skill than I currently have to pull it off consistently. whilst doing the butterfly, lift up the right calf like a flamingo. Then swing the left poi behind the back to wrap on the leg, and the right poi goes behind the head to wrap around the left bicep. right now i'm trying to work it into combos, but like i said, i'm not that much of a boss.

yet

I just learned a jump 360 windmil, keeping the hands on the back of the neck while doing it. You can "sling" the poi more towards horizontal when you do the spin, or you can keep them in the same plane the whole time. (John showed it to me)

Horizontal TTN switching from top to bottem. Needs more work. Started as a horizontal bf. Also found anice addition. On the bottem beat of the bf do a second beat and twist your wrists up so the insides are facing away from you then there's a way to do a wrist wrap and send them back up in the oppisite direction and repeat the wrap on top to send them back down.. I haven't even managed a beat of it yet.

Also in the works is a left right wraping bf. left poi forward right poi reverse. left poi wraps under right bicip at the same time right poi wraps over right bicip. then onto the other side in the same fashion. On this one I noticed that if you can do it in split time there's no chance of a tangle.

I'm cooking up a way to post a theory sheet. I'm still working on the details but pretty much it should provide insight to every move that is possiable in theory. However pulling off what comes out of this might be tough

quick question, has anyone ever noticed that if you are doing the regular butterfly and then switch which hands the poi are in, you are thendoing the reverse butterfly? that was kind of screwing with me the other day.

Finally got the rvs 5-beat weave. This had been eluding me for a long time. A friend, Jeff, who recently figured out made the crucial observation "the chains follow your hands." I discovered that if I twisted my wrists a certain way, it works, really smoothly.

Still not at the point where I can do it without thinking about it, but phew! that had been bugging me.

Santo--you asked if others are doing the btb fountain? I am, though it's very difficult for me. I've seen others who have the flexibility to do it tucked up high and tight...it looks really different that way, so much so that I thought it was a different move.

He He, productive weekend on the Poi front (unfortunately at the demise of all the work I should have done).

Nailed the reverse 3-beat, have the mexican wave (although not for too long), can 5-beat consistently on the RHS (not always on the left though)and started getting some good transitions between butterfly and weave (wrapping using glowsticks)

finally mastered the btb 3 beat weaves, foreward and backward, working on the turn, but keep hitting my dern leg. also cracked the 5 beat backwards weave. Got the backwards waves and butterfly alternates down pat, plenty fun. Managed to get my poi handles in my mouth for the bf, was having trouble cuz i wasn't used to it. I'm upset because i'm starting to run out of new moves to learn that don't involve wrapping, though i think its prolly time to start working on wraps soon, its the logical next step, but i need new poi cuz mine R 2 long. Also found a nifty little way of making the butterfly get smaller and larger, thats cool.

Learnt a sort of:-
"Overhead butterfly brought quickly down and jump over the poi then quickly bring them back up again to overhead butterfly move"
Looks wicked with fire poi as you jump over the flames - hurrah.
Very tiring if you do it every other spin

Five-beat circular weave. It is *so* nice.

Working on a combo where I alternate a rvs TTN in front, behind the head, in front again, and btb (it's easier with a rvs than fwd).

I've been f#%$in' around with the quad corkscrew, and came up with somethin' cool. If you rotate and space the pattern 2/2/2/2 ( bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right), you get an xtremely fast propeller action. wht I need to know is if there's a name 4 it?

Well the btb 5-beat is pretty useless unless your're spinning with other spinners who know what they're doing. Purely technical, purely to say you can do it. This is the way i do it, to get a reverse btb 5-beat start off from a regular reverse btb weave. The hand movement is pretty much the same as it in front of you, its just your body motion that has to change. Let's say when you do your extra rotation on the left side, make sure your facing the direction opposite, when it goes on the other side turn quickly and guide it. For a forward btb 5-beat you don't face the other way as much its more of an angle than straight on opposite, and you have to move your ass a bit more. Hope that helps.

So, nary a few days after I was bemoaning feeling stuck, I recently got a 4-beat weave and almost* a 3-beat corkscrew.

The btb weave remains wily and elusive.

OK, just got the btb 5-beat weave (shin-bashing) with fire last night (because, as we all know, it doesn't count until you do it with fire {g}).

No apparently it doesn't count until you can do it with huge jagged rocks at the end of your poi

One-handed (right hand) forward, reverse, and split time butterfly

Now working on polishing and transitions. Maybe should try btb too...
