I feel liek such a goober... I can now add behind the head weaving to my repetoire... I don't know why I never thought to go there before.. I mean I guess I didn't really think of it in those terms at least...

I learned one of the most important parts of becoming a good twirler and thats to Flow! I don't think in terms of move anymore i look at the big picture and what would be visually pleasing and most importantly what feels the best for my style. Joining the site has made me into on of you darn Poi addicts. Someday they'll have to open up P.A. meetings (Poi Anonymous) especially for members of this site

i am sooooo thankful to my weekend in kent.....i learned a grip of new moves i learned the fountain, the 4beat weave (almost, still tangle a bit but i have a huge bruise on my arm from jelly wrestling so it's impeding my learning at the moment), turning with the windmill, and a few other turns and plane manipulations

Yeah to pounce! good going girl!
To everyone else- you so needed to be there to watch pounce learn this! I was in pain from laughing trying to teach it.

I managed to learn reverse 5 beat weave at kent. I'd never really tried it before, as I'm not incredibly good at reverse 4 beat, but it just clicked and happened. Unfortunately it later 'unclicked' and I smacked myself around the face a lot! Hopefully I can do it again now though...

Just got straight-arm hyperloops going, now need to try the same thing underneath my legs instead And get those damn extended hyperloop turns working properly as well...

Wow, errrm...I've just been out for a spin, whilst in a really strange mood.
I had loud tunes in my headphones, lots of thoughts in my head, and suddenly I realised I was doing a new move.
Sorry, but I've absolutely no idea what it's called.
It looked quite nice though.

(its kinda split time butterfly, where you bring both hands round to the right hand side and behind your body (right hand behind waist, and left hand behind head), back to the front, and round to the left. Each place (in front, behind right, and behind left) has 3 beats.
Make any sense? )

completly non-poi moves... Built an indoor rope dart out of a 1.5'' monkeyfist on the end of about 12' of 1/4" rope. Great fun! Through wraps on my arms and legs, you can get some really complicated knots going with that much string... and of course the best bit about rope darts, making it flick straight out at unexpected times. you can do it off feet, hands, elbows... if you let it come forward over your shoulder, you can catch it on another part of the string (held taut) and through wrap it of that, in a kind of bad-planed-hyperloopy-kind-of way.

when i was playing with it at the bjc, holding one end and doing long, swingy, wrappy, release stuff it was attempts at working out some rope dart techniques.

Thought so. This to me is still poi, a weight on a string. But I don't understand why you only have 1 weighted end, unlike a meteor where both ends are weighted, why is this???

I assume it's the same thing 'Go-Go' uses in 'Kill Bill' those things she does with her feet are wicked. Definitely gonna be part of my meteor repetoire when i can get outside and use it again, oh how i long for an endless summer, I consider Meteor my True Art even though i'm considerably better at poi.

I had a thought about meteor the other day: To my knowledge there isn't a single word associated with any 'move' I do with a meteor. This makes it kinda hard to teach but I really like it, it's totally free. I adore the way everyone who picks one up plays with it in a totally different way. I also love how random it is, I find it far less controlable than poi. Not in a bad way though, meteors just flow of their own accord.

I'm gonna do some kind of Meteor Tutorials on spherculism. But like I say, the moves aren't catagorised yet and I don't want them to be so it's gonna be quite a tricky task.

Coleman: it'd be great to get some footage of you spinning one. How 'bout I make you a nice Monkey Fist Meteor and do some filming this summer?? If you prefer I could make you a chain one, then you can put crazy flames on the ends.

Which reminds me. Last summer my friend got some footage of me spinning fire meteor for the first time, i still haven't seen the footage but he promised to get it to me soon, it'll be up on spherculism straight away.

your rope meteor is the only one i have really felt i could play with how i wanted to and am i am absolutely useless at making toys for myself - my orange poi have been waiting for me to fix them for about 5 months now but i keep forgetting to learn how to sew

I tend to use a lot of staff terms for metior, and poi ones for the butterfly stuff, apart from that there are specialised things like 'driving' and 'pushing' wich mainly refer to static spins. id love to see some metior footage from ya Matt, that would be cool. grab me sometime and ill teach you thoes foot releases.

Hey Nx,

I forgot about your meteor antics, you da man. How 'bout when it gets sunny we get a few heads down to brighton, i'll get a bling camera and we can make lots of crazy little films. There's oodles of space free on spherculism.

As for new moves I've been working on Butterfly Hyperloops

I can nail those double wrist stops half way through a BF hyperloop.

I got a cheeky little single wrist stop so you come out split time same direction, then straight into a regular HL ~ Haven't managed to come out of it IN a regular HL yet but it seems possible. This means I can do a repetitive pattern which incorporates 2 BF-HL In Time and 2 W-HL Split time. The time changing half way through looks crazy. Add in a couple throws to spice it up a little and your away. Unless of course you want to do a really great performance, then i'd recommend spinning a 3 bt weave Really Fast

And I've been experimenting loads more with single and double wrist stops during Weave Hyperloops.

Been doing loads of 'Cubes', 90-Degree plane Tweaking to the max. Can apply it to pretty much everything up to 5 beat, and turns. Haven't been using the Horizontal Plane too much except when I stop forcing the 90 degrees and just totally freestyle.

Been changing the direction of the poi in mid air without using my hands

Same old, Same old.

Have you ever done 'Meteor Passing'? It's really simple but I've only ever done it with people who can't reallly spin Meteor, would be great to practice some time.

The weight on the end is normally a sharp metal spike or a dagger, and you keep the other end wrapped around one hand or the other to ensure you get maximum range and still pull it back in.
I havn't seen kill bill yet but everyone who's seen the rope dart thinks i have... Saw it on a jackie chan first i think.

Wow man, I know how Chaotic my meteor can be even when it's totally in control.

Must get cut quite a bit with a dagger on the end??

My Fire meteor cuts my arms to shreds and that's just from tiny bits of jagged wire where i's been cut.

yeah matt, that sounds like a boss idea. you should meet ivan, hes got some kick ass metior moves too.

I been playing with thoes bf to weave hyps too, pertty hard but possible, I think i figured out how to do it then forgot about the move, that happens to me all the time. Someone says, oh, what about this? and i go Yeah! i figured that one and do it badly. so many moves, so little time.

turning a box is a bitch, but ive finnaly gotten the box weave to feel good.

nice, see ya in the spring boyo.

thanks to mr spiral x and the wonderful environment that is spitz i did some poi last night.
mr. x showed me how straight arm weave hyperloops work.
and they fit really well

oh, and i also fed properly for the first time and managed (right-handed only) 531 as single-flat-pass

No problem, and thank you for showing me those vertical hyperloops and a couple of other little tricks which I'm going to be playing with

Also finally got butterfly hyperloops after being shown how they work, need to get them a lot smoother still though!

And as for bf<->weave hyperloop transitions they're definitely possible both ways 'cause I've done then by accident a couple of times when cocking up my hyperloops Getting them to come out smoothly is going to be difficult though as the tension in the poi is usually lost.

Also worked out what the difference between airwraps and hyperloops is in a mathematical way. But I'm not going into that unless pressured

LOL It will require me to draw diagrams though, because although it probably can be explained in words, diagrams will make it a lot harder to argue against

I may even start a thread if I do. Because we need more threads arguing about what hyperloops and airwraps are
