Hello, hello and welcome to the all-new, shiny thread for fire dancers, spinners, object manipulators, drummers, musicians and anyone else interested in these arts anywhere in Ireland.

Our community started coming together a few years ago, and it's grown to include people from all over the country...

If you are new to poi or staff or spinning stuff and want to meet up with any of the Irish spinners, please post in this thread, introduce yourself and feel free to come along to the workshops, gatherings or events that get talked about.

Also, if you'd like to be on my mailing list for fire gatherings and other juggling events, please PM me your email address and I'll add it. The fire gathering takes place fortnightly in Belfast, but it's one way to keep in touch with everyone.

So welcome, and hope to see you soon

Clare x

Woot, first reply, and I'm not even Irish

I'll be around Dublin this weekend, arriving Thursday evening, doing a gig on Friday, then potentially have Sat & Sun (24th & 25th March) to do stuff with

Any Dublin spinners fancy meeting up for spin/juggle/drink sometime?

Wow. A new thread. This is going to take some getting used to. I'll put the kettle on for us, and wait for everyone else to arrive.

Good plan putting all the meets info in the first post by the way Maybe it should be added to the first post in the "welcome to Ireland" thread in the meet others forum - and a link to here, because no-one really looks there anyway...

Durbs, as I've already explained to Clare, I'm horribly busy on Thursday, but will be around on Saturday and Sunday evening when i finish work for spinning/drinking, so let me know if you're at a loose end.

I've had far far too many biscuits today and yesterday... I just can't say no when there's free biscuits on offer - and a good selection too; cookies, jaffa cakes, regular and chocolate digestives and fig rolls amongst others

Will endeavour not to lurk quite as much as with previous Irish dancing thread (twas commented on at the last Dublin Convention... imagine that!)

Great idea starting a new thread though, old one was getting a little unwieldy... also a quick note to remind folks that before heading to Goldsmith Hall on Tuesdays, they should check Trinity's calendar as Goldsmith Hall is only on during term time - so next session is the start of April when the undergrads return from holidays.

*opens another packet of biscuits and passes them round*

There's alot of poi spinners called Clare huh? or in some cases its spelt "Claire"

I've seen a few people setting themselves up on Grafton Street, seems to be the place to be if you wanna busk.
It's been taken over by those people who stand as still as statues. (I like the Angel girl, she's pretty!)
We need to increase the number of jugglers and spinners on grafton street!!

Fire busking's pretty rubbish in Dublin Durbin...

You need drummers, and fire safeties and pretty girls for the hat... otherwise the police assume you're a crusty juggler and move you on fairly fast.

But I dunno... it's been a while for me, so maybe's it all changed...

Not sure what the implications of a High Court ruling that section 3 of the 1847 Vagrancy (Ireland) Act is unconstitutional will have on the Guards policy of frowning upon busking, especially passing the hat ... may be worth while investigating this (any volunteers?)

Slightly more details for anyone interested:
Section 3 of the Act made begging in a public place an offence and provided for a sentence of up to three months on conviction on that charge. Apparently the ruling stated that the law interfered with a person's right to freedom of expression and his right to communicate.
The legislation was struck down.

I'm surprised there isn't more Artsy people busking around Temple Bar...I'd say you'd attract loads of attention around there if you were spinning fire and such. It's also easier to get a good space to spin, Grafton Street is always packed, could be quite dangerous.
Tho I suppose Grafton Street is the place for street artists really, always has been
