i turn with it, gives a nice kind isolating effect on one end. Dont think the planes are crappy, they seem pretty nice cos you can go straight back into any other steve variant

yeah but if you looked at it from the side, it would appear BTB, like the vertical angel roll is BTB.

I dunnoe about this non-turning version.

and when I say that, I mean I dunnoe what the hell it is, how is it different from a horizontal angel roll, or a four beat horizontal angel roll?

The second half of any full steve is some form of angel roll in my book. And my book is very strict.

thou the horizontal angel rolls do have some interesting differences from the vertical versions. That could bear more thinking about. If people didn't keep confusing the issue with talk of minimal BTB anti-spun steves all the time. <pouty rant>

I don't see this anti-spin thing either.

Surely a full minimal steve would semi isolate one end of the staff, then at the switch to the angel roll, semi isolate the other end of the staff? (as seen from above.) (on the same side the first end was isolated on ... which is now BTB)

oh, new posts appeared.

Well, when you're bored of talking about the technical details of contact staff moves online, you're bored of life.

you always turn a little with angel rolls (and dont say you dont cause ive just watched your routine at play and you do, so there). The horizontal angel roll can be done with arms infront or behind, both you have to turn a bit (more of a rock from side to side i suppose but whatever)

And how is the normal second half of a full steve an angel roll variant, it rolls with spin down your arms and wraps your throat. That's clearly just a front side steve.

I think ive got a lot of discussing contact on tinternet left in me before i die.

I'm done talking... Lets play...

Oh bugger, I'm at work for another 1hr 30mins after leaving early to fetch my staffs from National Express who left them in the hold when they transfered luggage from one coach to another. Even more bugger... They didn't actally bring it on the coach they said it would be on. Which means my impromptu flexi-time was for sod all... B*stards...

I think there's a difference between actual turning and sticking your arm further behind you. But I'll grant you to do it with arms in plane with my body and not moving, I'd need to turn.

Well it's like this, do a normal horizontal angel roll, do the second half of a full steve. The only difference is the position of your arms (more in front from the steve) and that it substitutes a throat wrap for a halo roll. Therefore I reckon the second half of a steve is just a front angel roll. (yeah, my fake front angel roll, not your proper front angel roll.)

A front side steve would be a steve that goes over your chest. Like a steve which substitutes a chest halo for the neck wrap. Not like the second half of a full steve, which is entirely different. In my book.

But that's all just pissy chat about the naming of moves.

Guys, the antispin and non-turning were refering to the anti-spin non-turning horizontalish gay jesus, not the angel rolls.

Horizontal and vertical angel rolls are mechanically non-similar ignoring the obvious horiz/vert difference, so for me they're not even in the same family of moves.

I don't believe in angel rolls anyway.

@ NeonShaolin- In answer to your earlier demand for videos.... I hate making them. Plus I'm often of the opinion that videos are crap and detrimental to mine and others learning. I learn far more and am more inspired by this thread, just practising and talking to other staffers than any video I've ever watched. Other people disagree with me on this and they're entitled to be wrong of course.

But since it's you asking I'll get on it (Claudio's ass that is ).

I suppose it makes sense for people who are already up on the terminology but for staff newbies like myself who haven't yet absorbed the innate understanding of the descript of moves in purely written medium it can get quite confusing... Besides, I'm a visualist...

don't worry dave, I sometimes suspect they are just making stuff up to sound clever except strugz... he's not clever (see his last post )

as I don't know what a gay jesus is (appart from that picture of him starting off in the village peoples YMCA) I can't see how you do a jesus without turning??? I imagine something like the continous angel rolls that LOOK like jesuses but aren't in the lab 5?? video with chrono and strugz.

But hell what do I know I'm shite at staff

um.

can i suggest that the general level of posting in this thread over the past page or two has made people not post in it - it's supposed to be a place where people can be pleased about what they've just learned, not a slagging match (even if i know you're all just being freindly, its a bit daunting i imagine, if you don't know you all)

so, please remain on topic. ta.

non-wrapping wraps (thanks, jay, nearly a year since you showed me them....). essentially, isolating a staff round a point as if it were contacting on you, but its not.

not nearly as exciting as it sounded without the explanation

well if you get to spoil our fun mr bluecat, I think I'm going to do some fun spoilage.

If you post a move that you've learned that you know people won't know what it is / won't know about, you have to post a decent description of it.

You can't just say: I learned to do supernatural jesus's with triple doppelgangers.

Cos that's useless. And gay.

More explanations!
