I put down my poi for quite some time due to various personal things which led me to have zero time to practise or play. I've started picking them up again and discovered something rather disturbing. It seems my arms have forgotten how to work. I can still do the basics 3bt... butterfly....carries...and so on but when I try to go into the more difficult moves such as isolations and things I'd become fairly good at I more often end up with the poi wrapped around my neck. Of course I tried the whole "practise makes perfect" mantra but it seems the more I practice the more hopelessly entangled I become. Of course I've also moved from georgia to New York and now I don't know anybody who can help me. What am I doing wrong?

Stop trying - close your eyes, start playing.

If you start getting frustrated, stop, chill, drink tea - try again

then look for people in New York, such as NYC, and go to the reguler meeting and practice and be inspired by them.

Then....PLAY, not practice, if you start getting frustrated, stop, chill, drink tea - try again

then drink moooooooooooooooore tea

his poi are always tangled but he seems to love it

New York has quite a few great spinners that get together regularly... Should find those guys. They also come down here to Philly and hang with us, and vice verce, on occasion.

hmm...shall take the tea into account....must find suitable tea....i'm sure it will be much easier to find people once i know where i'll actually be living...at the moment i'm living out of a hotel. not exactly producing wonderful spinning vibes. Learning to do interesting things with my tangles. Rather disappointed that I'm so far away from New York City. Damn the boonies...

You guys should come up to Toronto ^.^' I only know of one or two other spinning groups up here :P
And even then, I can only get in contact with one person, from one of the groups every few weeks.
It's so lonely
I'm getting all my friends into it, but strangely enough, there's a difference between hanging out with a bunch of friends who play around and don't learn anything, and a bunch of masters who play around and either teach or learn something new from their playing around.

looking at the map Angel it seems Toronto is closer to me than NYC is. I'm just on the other side of lake ontario. we're moving into Syracuse I believe. Might not be to hard to get up there. Practice is going along semi-well-ish.... I'm not up to my usual level yet but I'll get there eventually. As far as tea goes its annoyingly hard to find and make in a hotel...grrr...can't wait to be out of here.
