Sewing Kevlar

Morning!

i was just wondering if anyone has tried to sew kevlar wick? I want to try and need some thread suggestions. all i can think of is to use wire.

can anyone help please?

Kinda depends what you are trying to sew. Will you need the thread to be flame resistant (i kinda guess from the wire suggestion that that is correct) or to slowly burn through with the kevlar?

You can get some very fine gauges of copper wire that are almost like thread, but I don't know how well that would stand the heat and hold.

The only thing I can really suggest is going to a hardware store, checking what wire seems light enough to use as thread/ties, buys some and test it, then let everyone know your findings!!!

Yes its so i can sew pieces of wick together, it will need to be fire resistant.

Maybe i cud try thick cotton thread? but i do think that wud burn.

Kevlar thread does exist, but I've no idea where to get it from!

Really test wire you use, a lot of thin wire will melt or become fragile on repeated heating and wicks coming to pieces randomly is not good!

i'm pretty due renegade has kevlar thread, at least they used to. it's pretty thick but works great

ive just looked up kevlar string on the net nd mostly got sites about gloves and tennis?!!

but il order sum from renegade or one of the other fire sites!

I had some moderate success by pulling a frayed end off the end of my wick and twisting this and then sewing it.
The only problem I found was trying to pull the needle through the kevlar as it's mighty dense.

You can cannibalize a nice piece of kevlar thread from tape wicking by cutting a thread about a foot down from the end in the middle of the tape, then pulling the string out the end. You can get several lengths this way without ruining the tape for regular use.
I use a curved carpet needle and a pair of needle-nose pliers to sew it with.

Just did a search on google for Kevlar thread and found this link:

It's a beading/craft type shop apparently so if they have Kevlar thread perhaps other craft shops sell it as well.
