3-beat weave with 2 staves

not as hard as it sounds. I'm sure you know how to do this... holding one staff only, spin forward in front of your body in the normal way (the way EVERYONE does when they first pick up a staff) alternating side to side. practice this on both hands (I know you can do this..). Now practice crossing and uncrossing the two staves as they are both spinning forwards... to turn it into a three beat weave, basically you come across the top with one stave say your right arm is on top, then you basically un cross and then cross again with the other arm on top... Now if you stagger the pattern, so that one stave seems to follow the other, youve got a 3 beat weave with doubles...(I think). best of luck, Josh

ROFLMAO!! congrats Josh first post in the new forum! I'm currently working on this move at the moment. I have it fine on my LHS, but seem only to be able to do a basic cross-over when moving over to the RHS. I'm working on it though... I want to be able to do the fountain with my doubles real soon.

oooh I have a tube of aluminium that is going to be my first staff (only 1m to start with) and a piece of wooden dowel (a bit shorter) lying around. Saw this and thought ooooooh. Tried it and clang!! cling!!! wang..ang...ang....anng (echo attempt)!!! They keep hitting! But I had a lot of fun trying - so much so that now I want another 1m piece of tubing!! Is that too long for doubles tho?? Don't wanna turn this into a size comparison thread, so only respond if you got move related stuff too!!!

I've just seen an aussie chick doing DS butterfly *getting used to these poi names now* She was cool. She was on tv. Her performance was slightly spoilt by CH4's insistance of intersplicing interview footage with her fire dance. But it was good all the same. I tried to explain it to my bro but he wasn't as excited about it as i was (I've never actually seen anyone else doing double staff). ------------------ C@ntus [i]We are old, we are young, we are in this together, vagabonds and children, we're prisoners forever, with pulses raging and eyes full of wonder, Kicking out behind us again.

Oh and Bendy, all my staffs (I have 5) are about 1m long. The glostaff is a bit longer. But not much. ------------------ C@ntus [i]We are old, we are young, we are in this together, vagabonds and children, we're prisoners forever, with pulses raging and eyes full of wonder, Kicking out behind us again.

---sniff>--- HELP Has anyone done a NAMING POI moves thread that I can go and look at, now that we have our own staff board, all anyone seems to talk about is poi moves with staffs...(i think this is a good thing) ...goes off into the corner and starts to cry... ------------------ Charles (INFERNO) newdolbel@hotmail.com http://juggling.co.nz Fire is the test of gold; adversity, of strong men. *Seneca, (4 BC - 65 AD)* Unless they are in the corner crying... I can do eet, but only with 1m staves. I never ever, ever call a move my own, cos it's an silly thing for me to say, even if it were 'true', I sounded alot like i needed to grow up. Self observation teaches you what you honestly sound like to others. Do you like to hear pride or humility? One of the most humble people I've met was a Confester woman, 'Twirlygirl'! she was absolutely fantastic twirling quad hoops at Earthcore and could do the 3 beat with HOOPs. HOOPs man! ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif) when she tried it with my glo poi, she only did it at half of her speed (which was still FAST!) and -this is the best bit- he said that she was pretty rusty at it with sincerity in her voice. I am more impressed with that than any staff/poi move, as it requires more courage, not just practice! Live long and prosper! ![[Wink]](images/icons/wink.gif)

Bender??? What are you going on about?
I've never really been a proponent of the "On-Topic-Thread" mission, but I might sign up soon.
Well, I guess the first nine words had something to do with this thread...
Just wondering if you replied to the wrong thread by accident?

Personally, I think that perhaps there is a slight difference b/t the butterfly and buzzsaw/burn the nose moves when it comes to doubles. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to do the butterfly with long staffs. When I do (what I call) the butterfly with doubles I don't bring the staffs in between my arms like you do with a poi buzzsaw. With doubles, I wind my wrists up btb, bring them to the front and unwind them so the staffs cross in front (outside my arms). Then, when the wrists are wound up at the front, I take em behind (or above the head), cross them, and wind em up again. I'm sure some people must be slipping in wrist wraps (rolls) for more continuous butterflies. I don't do doubles that often so I hope this makes sense. Perhaps it's time for a thread on staff butterflies. ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif)
