i suggest that for now, slow down as much as possible.
This will up the ratio of concentration to poi movement.
learn accuracy, then the right speed, then grace, then French. Italian is optional.
later you won't need much concentration at all, as muscular memory from hours of practice will prevail.

the one hard obstacle can be overcome by the many small efforts.

Can a mod please move this to the yelp section? other keen poi starters would be purleased and will luv u long time!

bender is right, the most important thing is to SLOW DOWN. the faster you swing, the harder they hit you.
other than that

dont cross your hands over

dont stay up past your bed time

and dont accept food stuff from strangers, ecspecially candy flavoured.

It some times helps to weight you poi.. if you are using tennis balls you can put a slit in then and feed then pennies.. thats what i did with mine - I can slow them right down but they hurt more..

Keep going!

Make sure one hand is above and in front of the other.

practice up against a wall. it will teach you to do a nice flat butterfly and will hopefully guide the poi enough to stop a bit of the tangling.

also, get ballchain. it comes untangled very easily and will make your life 10 times easier while you learn. mind you this won't actually help you learn to stop tangling, but it makes things far easier for you as you do. [Smile]
