Just recently, one of my wrists started clicking as I spin. I also just got over a bout of teninitis in my wrist...I want to know if anyone else has this problem? It doesn't seem to be harmful, just disturbing.

Yep, I get that a lot because all my eer ...what are those bone jonction called ? wrists, ankles, elbows etc ... are just too flexible ... it's in teh family and also stronger because of the crazy amount of times where I twisted them all [Frown]

no pain, just an annoying sound, i know what you mean and I don't think there is anything one can do about it though ..;

but if someone knows, then I'm interested too !! [Big Grin]

somebody that takes aikido would be the real person to ask. they do lots of hard wrist work. i'm pretty sure this is what someone that takes it told me... (but if you really want to know for sure, go to an aikido dojo). the clicking will work itself out as you use your wrists more and more. it's just the kinks getting worked out. do gentle wrist stretching movements. the key here is gentle, don't tweak or you will aggravate the area.
i've had lots of tendonitis problems. i'm not sure exactly what tennitis is, if that's a typo then i can certainly give you the lowdown on nutritional therapy for all kinds of tendon problems. there is a tennitis but i though it was an elbow thing(tennis elbow). anyway i'll save the list for whether or not you have tennitis or tendonitis.

as a gymnast of ten years id like to say DONT STRESS! my warmup consist of cracking, clicking and crunching nearly every joint in my body before i feel flexible enough to start training. occasionally i'll get a continous annoying click like yours but if i shake or stretch it hard enough it usually goes, if not, it goes in a week or so. this is probably not the safest or effective method, i'll probably have arthritis when im 25, but oh well. Arashi, i'll be in Austin in a few months, watch out [Wink] [Razz]

I've found I have three distinct kind of bone joints sounds (thanks Mike [Wink] ) :

A. when I crack teh joints of my fingers etc .. which I beleive is just cracking a little bubble of air in the liquid between two bones. Soo relaxing, probably not too good and end up with twisted bones later ... this one goes "CRACK"

B. When Accidentally I doa bad move and I hear a nasty "schkrrrrruntch"... not good, not good...

C. this "CLICK" sound I get in my wrists and ankles and I can repeat endlessly ... dunno what it is exactly, nothing nasty I suppose and most probably what I think you have..

does this make any sense to you ? [Smile]

Arashi, I would really appreciate anything you have on tendonitis (I can't spell, that was my best guess in my first message). Why don't you email me at aimeceleste@hotmail.com

And thanks!

heh, my wrists click continuously when i move em in a certain way, i dont think its anything adverse, ive never had trouble with em...

and often when i stand up my knees give the old two gun salute, i can thank 5 years of running on roads for that...

and also i can crack my knuckles one handed, and i can do it continuously, so i dont think its the air thing with that hand, i think my finger joints are just messed up...

oh well, thats all my clicking joints, except for one hip, but that hasnt arisen in a while, and i hope it wont either, it was painful...

okaleedokalee here's what i know i'll post it here cause it's good info for all of us handy types. plus i never wanna type all this again. i'll try to represent the western and eastern medicines both. western first.
as the tendons of your hand/fingers go through your wrist they are moving past a lot of moving parts. they are protected from all this mess by tubes or "sheaths" (that's vagina for you latin buffs) that they pass through. if you flex the back of your hand you can se how your tendons do a dive underground as they approach the wrist. there, all the sheaths are wrapped like a present in a bundle by the thingy that gives you carpal tunnel when it goes out. anyway all those sheaths need a certain amount of lubrication to make things move smoothly. tendonitis is simply an inflammation of the sheaths or the tendons caused by a lack of said lubrication due to overuse of the joint. the tendons rub the inside of the sheaths and it hurts like hell. a western doc will tell you to just stop doing the repetitive motion that caused the problem. gee thanks. problem is every time you move your hand at all you scream in pain.
carpal tunnel and tendonitis will have relatively the same symptoms. they are caused by the same poor diet choices.
eastern docs will say this. each of the organs is described in terms of its elemental energies. they didn't have microscopes to help describe things with so they came up with other ways to classify things. the kidney is the organ in question here. it is the water organ and is in charge of keeping everything wet and happy. the lack of liquid in the sheaths is caused by a kidney imbalance, which has the effect of drying out the body as other organs take precedence. or if there are other problems, the kidney may be imbalanced due to an imbalance in another organ which is then causing the kdney to get thrown off. seeing an acupuncturist at least once so they can read your organ chi levels is very helpful. all they need to do is take your pulse.
eating things which support the kidneys is very effective but it takes a little time and a lot of discipline. even harder is not eating the bad things which caused it. first of all coffee is very verry bad for kidney chi and is usually the main culprit. if you want to get rid of tendonitis that's the main thing to do. other acidic foods like the nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, etc.), citrus fruits, and chocolate are other no nos but fuck i ain't never leaving chocolate. nutella helps.
cool, wet foods like cucumber and cherries are good. the best thing for kidneys, however, is black beans or adzuki beans. eat them every day and you will be surprised. kale (and other leafy greens, the more bitter the better) is good for cleansing kidneys but it is a bit hard on them so go easy. i had tendonitis so bad i couldn't use my wrists for like 6 months. cutting out coffee and eating black beans constantly gave me back the use of them. yerba mate is a superior coffee alternative that has many medicinal properties despite it's moderate level of caffeine. i live on the stuff. it is a sacred and widely social herb in south america. however it still is bad for you and going cold turkey is the only way to get cured. much to my dismay i still can't take capoeira and aikido and gymnastics and udder wrist intensive activities cause i am an unfocused eggplant. hope this helps. tendonitis bites. any questions?

Is tea bad? I've never even seen an adzuki bean in my life...And I try to keep hydrated, but since the weather's been warmer, I KNOW I'm not doing as well as I should.

I live (oops, WORK [Smile] ) at a sushi restaurant, so I get a lot of soy, which I have heard is good for me.

Basically, I don't know too much about eastern medicine, and I really appreciate the info.

salmon! i forgot, but salmon and other red fish are grrrrrrreat for tendonitis. how nice to work where you do. and yes, anything with caffeine (including tea) is bad. moderation is the key when you are too hooked to give up caffeine completely. caffeine creates what is known as false fire, which burns up the water chi in the body. a healthy chi balance will alow for the same energetic results as caffeine by just being healthy. i used to have much more sustained energy before coffee and college came into my life. ride a bicycle!
drinking lots of water won't help your tendonitis necessarily. it will keep your kidneys healthy, but you need medicine to cure it. drink water straight whenever you drink it, don't flavor it or your kidneys will have to filter out whatever you put in it. oh yeah, cranberries and cran juice are good too. they go in the bitter kidney cleaner section with kale.

wow arashi, what a comprehensive approach to a nasty twirl problemo. Now i feel like such a caffeine addict! what can be done to compensate the stimulant effect of a short black? should i try to compensate it?

on another aspect, do you cop the same problems with your knees?

Ty, i get exactly the same problem, i turn my wrists or ankles and get a click, i find if i tense my wrist, turning my hand with fingers facing up, then release forward, the click is even louder, both wrists and both ankles. Little less on my ankles tho. It started when i began aikido training, and has not stoped no amount of streching helps. It's just wierd.

i used to do a lot of clicking in my knees and wrists from horseback riding, it got worse a few years ago
doctor said that the repetitive use causes the clicking, it may not hurt now but it most likely will later
hormones can deteriorate the lubrication in your joints too (so he says) so stopped taking those and that helped
one of the things he had me take is glucosimine and chondrotin and calcium complex, and the one that is really supposed to help is a vitamin B complex, but you have to be careful with that because it can give you vivid dreams--i started sleepwalking
it all helped, still click, but had to start with natural vitB, as was mentioned green leafy veggies
