Well, I'm now beginning my fifth month spinning and I've learned every move on this site forward and backward (with the exception of 5 beat BTB) as well as some interesting trnsitions and wraps that I've learned from individual posts, and I owe it to all of you who have helped me so much. I just cracked the BTB weave and turn as well as the 360 BTB weave. Thanks again to you all, especially you CRD.PLUHR DOC

When I'm doing the rvs 5-beat and on the right side, my left wrist winds up on top, with the left hand curled down around the right wrist.I've found that the rvs 5-beat demands a slightly slower tempo, otherwise I'm likely to stuff up. Also, it's helpful to pretend that your wrists are locked together through the rotations. It sounds like you've got a timing issue, so play around with that. Hope this helps.

Had a beautiful practice today!!!!! Cracked the reverse weave with my staff (I guess, according to Mr. Mad C. Juggler, it's a 5-beat). That opened up every turning move that I know. Also came up with a helecopter shoulder wrap, pulled off a full 360 degree neck wrap, and figured out how to keep my rotor shoulder wrap going almost indefinatly. Now if I can only figure out how to do a "weed whacker" with a six foot staff.... ------------------ If you love something, set it on fire.

I finally hit BTB weave tonight. I had never done it before, it just seemed like something my hands couldn't do, impossible, but i've been practicing trying to do it, and then all the sudden I did the weave 3 times, and then i wacked myself in the back of my leg...I'm not getting bruises, but it hurts, i've also been nailing my chest...from my left hand going out of controll...I'm very excited, because I just got turning 90 degrees or so and going from forwards weave to backwards weave, and although sometimes i turn too fast and end up hitting myself, I am getting good at spinning and going from F weave to B weave... and that means I can go from F weave to B weave to BTB weave? how COOL is that!?!?! If malcom could put up more animations that would be great!^_^ And the explanations for BTB stuff usually boil down to, "do what you normally do infront of you behind your back instead"... and that just isn't very helpfull:'( But it is very rewarding to crack that BTB going on just your gut and natural instincts *guttural yelp*. I tried expressing my angst pre BTB weave to my family, and they just say "i'm sure you'll get it eventually" *grumble* and now they are simply saying "oh...that's nice....it all just looks the same to me...spinning circles..." *sigh* Thanks for listening everyone have a GREAT CHRISTMAS, or a great non-christmas, just have a great holiday!! (Guess who's getting some poi [not fire:'( not yet ] under their christmas tree ) Good night! Peace and PLUR -tallica

Just got the turning btb weaves (I can do 3 out of 4 of the turns), btb weave 360's and fountains. I still don't look as good as Jo Derry doing btb weaves...I have to dodge the poi way to much*time passes* Ok I got a thread-the-needle-weave-fountain figured out. looks cool but is imposible to explain. And I now have the btb weave 180 turns in all directions (4 of 4), but I can only 360 turn to the left. [This message has been edited by santanatwo (edited 08 January 2002).]

Ok 3rd time I have tried this stupid gov computer. Ok ok start by just doing a front cross with both hands together as you come back down on your right side swind the poi/glowstick between your legs rotate 108 degrees to your left swinging your left leg up and the poi/glowstick out from between you legs. It is still sloppy when I do it but it is getting better. Weather or not this is a new move has yet to be determined but it is new to me but like thats hard. There we go done 3rd time is the charm.

well, as it seems most of the ppl i spin poi with do butterfly and associated butterfly moves spinning in a frowards rotation...as "me" dont ask why am the only one that can do these moves in reverse such as thread the needle! which as thistle said to me that could be good for passing poi to each other during us both doing TTN good i said...but also got me thinking why have i taught myself these moves in reverse when no one else i know can do it that way...well i was just messing around for a half hour in the attic with my poi and taught my self a forwards TTN chuffed as now!! one more thing..: now that i can fluently do a forwards and a reverse TTN, now means that a behind the back TTN is possible! can any one do this move? i ponder, i gave it a try and had a good think about hand possitioning and sod it by the end of the week i'm gonna be doing it i hope. wish me luck pk do you have a vain-ego with poi?

TTN fountain... ok I'm going to try to explain this. A TTN always has one hand crossing over the other, the trick is always have an arm crossed over, even when turning. in other words, there are two ways of turning from a forward TTN to a backwards TTN, one way the hands come apart for a moment and there is a "gap" in the TTN. The oter wy involves crossing over behind your back with one poi and then turning. in other words if you are doing a forward TTN and you want to turn left, bring the right hand poi around your left side while the left poi is still spinning in front, then turn and have both poi doing reverse TTN. So... always have a pio "crossed over" otherwise you will be doing a butterfly in the middle of you TTN fountain.

I feel really poor! It's taken me a few days to get the hang of doing a rather retarded looking butterfly!!!(This is practising on and off, I haven't really gone spinning poi for more than 15 mins at a time... It's too cold outside at the moment for me to do much!!!) Well never mind, I learned spinning, and erm a butterfly so far!!!! Not bad for a little bit when i get bored in free periods during school. hey santanatwo it is possible to goto from a reverse TTN to a forwards TTN with a 180 move with out the arms crossed over..i figured this out the other night and i seem to be able to do it now with out a hitch! soon be a breaze with out thinking! also another way with out doing a turn is to do a reverse TTN followed by an arm wrap and then wrap the other arm to and follow through into a forwards TTN that also looks good..erm i think COL2 just got me hooked on wraps lol

been busting my ass all night with this.... i have been on ocasion trying to do a one handed butterfly for a month or 2..the one handed was easy but after a week i was trying to get it behind my head! not so simple so i havnt tried it for so long..until today.. messing around with my meteors i managed to do it with a reverse butterfly..managed 5 continuos beats front to back and managed 3 beats behing my head with one attempt.. so i been reading the board here fer hours tonight and every ten mins pick up my poi and give it ago..damn i got it down with my poi in reverse..got it sorted every time. tried it spinning forwards..dang same again got it after 2nd attempt. just as easy in both directions! i found all you have to do is keep your hand in a fist with both poi handles facing forwards away from you.Get them spinning nicly in one hand so they dont clash together at all, else you will alter the spin pattern, then as you reach the top of the spin and just start to feel the pull down move your arm gentally and smoothly as far behind your head. once you feel them pulling back up to the top again bring your arm back infront, dont rush else they will clash and hit you in the face this is a slow move so be warned. this works exactly spinning in both directions. just keep the fist with a nice speed of rotation and a smooth glide over your head/sholder, feeling your poi all the way then maybe try a few extra beats behind and infront have fun with this...cos i'm sure gonna love mixing this new one in with the other's happy spinning pk

Well in the past I had tried some BTB weaving and it hadn't worked.I decided to work it out today and managed to get some BTB crossovers, but couldn't get the weave from forward spinning. I tried it starting from reverse and about 10 min later (after being covered in soot and bruising my right calf) I got it. All I can say is the BTB reverse weave is no longer on my "overrated" list!! ------------------ Iggity-aggity-oop-eh-eh! Ziggity-zaggity-zoo-ah-ah! Oooh-ooh-phblt! Eh-eh-ackh! YAY !!! WHOOOAAA !!!!! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY Managed to get the TTN fountain (Split time and same time)I think I also got a kind of TTN weave.. not quite sure how to explain it but it seems to switch from left to right and back far quicker than doing the fountain. The arms do seem to cross over each other a lot more and the timing on the flick from L to R and R to L has to much much sharper (especially doing it in same time) I get really Zenn'd out doing it though.. feels wonderful !! ps: trying to work out a nice smooth 360 degree turn of TTN's (in both directions, doubled and tripled). I'll be one happy bunny when that happens !! ------------------ Kato [This message has been edited by Mushinkato (edited 15 January 2002).] [This message has been edited by Mushinkato (edited 15 January 2002).]

Just got two sets of Poi last week for my wife and I. Her level of fascination with Poi is, shall we say, not as high as mine. So she's only spent about half an hour total practicing.I've been able to find about an hour or so to practice (total time of about 5 separate practice sessions) HOWEVER, I have made some progress. So far I'm got down: Forwards and backwards in equal and split time. Whoo Hoo! Butterfly. Alternate Butterfly with my right hand, not quite with my left. Low Turn Tuck turn to the right, not quite to the left yet. High turn to the left. 3 beat forward and backwards weave 3 beat forward weave into a 180 turn into a 3 beat backwards weave then another 180 turn (while still weaving) to get back to a forward weave. And yesterday for the first time I did about 4 beats of a one handed butterfly. But I can't seem to get out of the one handed butterfly. That may take another hour I'm just glad I got the soft practice Poi. I keep getting thumped in my ear and on the back of the head. Saturday I was having so much fun during my short Poi practice session that I got out my juggling clubs and devil sticks for a full juggle workout. Cool. I just wish I had someone to pass with. Too many fun things to do, not enough spare time.
