in my opinion the most simple arm wrap is where you wrap the poi that is in youre right hand around the bit of youre arm between youre hand and youre elbow, on youre left arm.
practise doing it with one poi.
its easyest to not let much of the length of the poi wrap around, just let the very end (near the head) wrap. and the head will bounce off nicely
they are used to change the direction that the poi is spinning, and to look pretty
the wrap i described above can be used to transition from weave to butterfly smoothly. or visa versa..
go play
hope ive helped

One thing i have seen that looks rather cool, and isnt really that hard, so long as you have heavy heads, is 4 wraps, one after another, in butterfly.
Start with fwd butterfly wrap on right arm wrap on left arm (now in reverse butterfly) wrap on right wrap on left (back to fwd)
The trick is doing it one straight after the other, so that..well, its really hard to explain. but there are no 'slack' beats between wraps. kinda like the alternate butterfly is to the mexican wave. I'll wirte more detailed later, if needed. just pm me if thats not clear.
Or another one, that i think looks cool, is a leg wrap, from forward to backward butterfly. As they cross at the top of the circle, lift one leg straight out - either one, dont matter which - and wrap both poi around the outstretched leg. This is a pretty cool looking changeover, i think, anyway. One thing, though, is to make sure that one hand is pretty far in front of the other, or they tangle.

wraps will work fine with just about any poi ive ever used. they are a bit wierd with tails, but still happen
flaggy type things could be a problem, ive never used them though.. so i dont really know.
if youre getting bruised, then slow the poi down so it dosnt hit you so hard
