ok, does anyone have public liability insurance for doing fire? If so who did you get it from? Torribles no longer do it Dixon Chalmers will only cover from Sept-Sept (which is no good as I want to buy it now and be covered for a year) Someone told me co-op do it but their customer service line says no I only want it for outside (festivals etc.) I'm just wondering if anyone has any inside info they'd like to share. thanks sunbeam

FYI Jon I only posted that after searching all morning on google, phoning various insurance companies and getting nowhere. "you're a what?" "a fire performer" "um you mean you peform with fire" "yes that's right" ...lots of tinny hold-music later "oh no I don't think we can do that sort of cover" Seeing as there's lots of people on here who perform I just thought that someone might have been through this frustrating research process and may want to share their valuable knowledge ![[Roll Eyes]](images/icons/rolleyes.gif)

dixon chalmers is your best bet, sucks being sept - sept though, but think about it, yor covered! and it only cost you £75, **** dude its worth it, if your serious about it. i'm fortunte to have 2 policies right now, i still have my own personal cover up to £2 million and what ever work i get from te POOKa i am also covered as they have employees cover public lib. you can also try EQUITY and see what they have to say its located at .COM cant be arsed to link that its 6.15am. ![[Hug]](graemlins/hug.gif)

We're with Dixon Chalmers too - I spent ages looking around for other people and they really don't exist. It is annoying that the policy ends in Sept regardless of when you get it but 2 points: 1) £75 is very cheap for peace of mind 2) You can easily make that from one gig which you shouldn't do without insurance anyway.
If you're spinning at festivals for "fun" (as in you aren't booked to perform or anything) then you won't need insurance and I'm not sure Public Liabilty Would cover you anyway as you wouldn't be performing - just practicing... However I have no idea what's classed as a "performance"

I am just going through this in OZ, where Duck for Cover has August-August performer's cover including fire for about $300.
Coverage for workshops is a bit more tricky it seems. I am looking for annual and one off coverage (for 2UberOz) So far one off seems more expensive than annual coverage! Just finding out whether the annual coverage will cover other instructors acting under 'my direction' (yeah the idea of me 'directing' Yuta or Knoxious seems a little hilarious, but that's the mad sad world of insurance for ya.)
Well, for $473 I can have AMP cover workshops for a year including other instructors and no endorsement against fire. I'm classified as a 'dramatic arts teacher' 2UberOz is now a physical theatre event! Kewl.

Dixon and chalmers became Country and Mutual, and then Towergate Risk Solutions,
Towergate risk solutions
Currently when I last renewd my insurance policies it was around £175 for £2,000,000 and £260 for £5,000,000 for just public liability and product liability insurance, if like me you run a performance troupe then you will need other insurance policies as well.you will need to look at employee liability and group liability insurance and this gets expensive

Hi Sunbeam,
I dont know if this helps at all, Im with Equity the actors union.
Im a childrens entertainer, and also an illusionist that uses fire in both acts. Im covered through their PLI up to 5 million. They use a company called Fist Act Insurance.
Equity is not just a union for acters anymore, Is "the union for people working in the entertainment industry"
try this link for theeir contact details http://www.equity.org.uk/
Im sure they will be able to help you.
Failing that, you could try looking in the back of a publcation called THE STAGE. It comes out every thursday or Friday I believe. Used to be available from WH SMITHS, but now you have to order it from them. Its about £1.30
In the back theres usually adverts for insurance companys that deal with entertainers.
Hope that helps m8
Regards...Damian

yeah, it's the only place we've found, especially after those pyrotechnic incidences several years back that burned down those night clubs.

a quick update:
I just called towergate, and was passed onto their ents. department (0870 411 5516)
they still do the september-september arrangement at the moment. The cost is £165 for 2mill cover and £350 for 5mill cover
BUT
they said around the start of march they should be offering a new annual policy which will take you right through from when you but the policy to one year later

if anyones looking for fire performance cover in australia - the guys i got mine with are pretty awesome theyre called PerformSure, and to insure a group of 3-5 performers for the year it costs $690. Performers can be substituted for different performances (ie. they don't have to be named) but the maximum number covered is 5. It only covers damage to venues and for injuries to audience members, not injuries to performers. Have a look, the site is http://www.actioninsurance.com.au/main/entertainers_insurance.htm and its about half-way down. love to all you Hoppers you x

Anyone know of some reasonably priced insurance for teaching?
I need it from April to August.
I'll be teaching hoop, no fire involved, any ideas?
