hey guys,

are any of you thinking of coming to the leeds convention?

i went to the bradford convention on the 29th january and i noticed the immense lack of devilstickers and poi spinners.

it is hard for me to come to conventions in such places as falmouth due to the problem of distance with me living in north north england.

when nobody really turns up in these disciplines it makes it very hard to share and learn new ideas and tricks.

come on guys help me out here.
you know you wanna come...!

Bradford was a fairly small convention, though a nice one.

Incidentally, was the guy doing double-short-illuminated-meteors at the end of the afternoon, in the dark section at the side of the hall, one of your crew?

If so pass on my compliments, it looked extremely skillful

Sheffields convention is coming up-

http://www.shef.ac.uk/~ftc/shefcon05.html

19-20th March 2005.

It will be very good and will have lots of spinning workshops, with the sheffield juggling club president being a staff/poi spinner and sheffield in general having a strong spinning tradition (Poi in the Park etc).

Last years was very well attended and everyone really enjoyed it, so this years should go really well.

Cheers dude, that would have been me.. only just made them on saturday and one of the aerotechs broke during that spin.. twas good while it lasted tho. Seriously thinking about storming the aerotech factory and taking back what I am owed from faulty goods!

Thought there'd have been more poi there to tell you the truth, seemed like only a couple of my mates from leeds were flying the flag for twirlers.

Shef convention sounds loads better, Ill see you there

It's way too in advance for me to plan accurately, but I'd definitely like to come. What time does it start, and do you have to pay to get in the sports hall?

Hello!

In case y'all lost the lovely flyers, you can find info at
www.juggler.net/leeds

but it doesn't say very much at the moment. I will try and add a map and details for you soon.

The convention is in Leeds University Sports Hall, which is in the Southeast of the campus (if you know it). There will be three rooms - one main room, one small room for workshops and one middling room for poi, dancers etc. This is a great room - it has a sprung dance floor so you can really get into what you're doing, and it overlooks the main hall so you can see what everyone else is up to in those moments when you want a break.

There should be somewhere you can get tea and snacks also in the Sports Hall (and there are loads of takeway places nearby). We're trying to get Green Action to come and do a food/drink stall (a bit like at Sheffield), but it depends what University Catering say.

There's a show in the evening (that the £6 or £7 entrance also covers). There's some really great acts confirmed, and we're talking to some other cool people too. No fire, unfortunately, due to health and safety.

We've already had offers from people to run Poi workshops and we're really, really hoping that the weather will be decent enough to go and play with fire in the park (Woodhouse Moor/Hyde Park, by the uni) after the show (although this isn't an official bit of the convention, 'cos of those health and safety things I mentioned, so shhhh!).

It's possible that someone will be kind enough to volunteer their house for the after-convention party on saturday night, but no guarantee at the moment (this is an "unofficial" part of the convention too). There's usually crash space, but it's politest to ask in advance rather than pass out on someone's floor. ;-)

Right, I reckon I've said too much already. Hope some of it helps.

Look forward to seeing you in November (Saturday 19th!)

:-)

I could probably give a devilstick workshop on "Curls and other helicopter tricks" (ok, so similar to the one I gave at the EJC), if anyone's interested, if not, I'm likely to come up and just play.
