Graphic designers/ arty computer types

a graphix desighner or any good with desighning logos on a computer

i need a logo doing for my company, i know exactly what i want but im absolutely crap at art/ cumputer graphix

well the company is called stepped up promotions and im thinking something like

the word stepped (then a step up) then word up. and promotions underneath so it looks like up is on next step up

i could probabily hand draw it, but not computer

i need a logo to use on all literature and for a website like homeofpoi has a logo

I'll try to work out how to do in on the computer but i need to plan it first

ok its not looking great, but then again it is 00:40 and ony having paint to work with is kinda hindering, but its a logo only got STEPPED to write now lol that can wait til tomorrow, im gonan go to bed and plan it a bit better, night!

can you describe more on the idea of the piece, like what is it the company does and what sort of impression you want the logo to give?

First, please make thread subjects relevant! Even in Chat it's important that people don't use subjects such as 'Help?' 'Amazing!' or 'Anyone?' as it makes it less likely to do be read by people with input. I only found this as I was avoiding work.

the company is a promotions company and we aim to raise a lot of money first for NSPCC special investigations unit by putting together a event in 2007 and we also have chosen to back breast cancer and maybe cancer research and looking at womens aid also

and dom that logo is ace can i show it to my collegue and use it if need be

ooooh one more thing, what colours do you want?

thats good but that sort of thing looks like a poster

we need a logo that will be our logo on everything we get sent out and all our site and ppl involved with have the logo

but i do like ur idea for a poster idea dr.boo as that would stand out in a large image jus not in a logo (small) image

still liking as the main logo the idea dom had as the one with words getting bigger like steps but the other ideas are really good too

spoilt for choice what im gona do is send all the ideas to my mate to decide

also, some things to consider when getting a logo made.

size (by this i mean what relative size whould the words be if YOU were making the logo. Also, how big roughly will you want the logo to be on documents and websites in relation to everything else. The reasoning behind this is, if you want a logo that will typically be smallish then you want to have BOLD fonts to make it readable and noticable. If the logo will be largish frequently then having thick letters isn't as big a deal nor really as desirable)

type (meaning do you want a word only logo? a logo with an image built in, a logo where the words make up a shape or image? this is an important decision since any REALLY good logo can be used many different ways. Many people want the company name to be part of the logo but also want a image/shape they can use. The reason being they can use the image/shape WITHOUT the words on documents and such and still have it recognized. Think about the Nike Symbol for instance)

orientation (a tall or wide logo? square? want words reading up or accross? both? etc)

typical position (where in relation to most stuff would you idealy want the logo to be? this can affect the lead and angle of the logo. For instance some companies pretty much ALWAYS have their logo CENTERED. top center of any documents, top center of website, etc. So this type of logo really should have a MOSTLY clean and centered feel to it. typicall this kind is also a bit wide overall. this avoids having to much visual weight on one side of the logo. Not saying this is a RULE, just something one sees a lot. If the logo is gonna mostly be on left or right side/corner of stuff then you can have a weighted logo that will lead into your documents and such)

colors and colors versus potential backgrounds (colors are important. Colors are one of the few initial things that a customer/viewer of logo will retain. Its also important that the colors mesh well together and are identifiable. Also, you don't want to use colors that will not look good with a typical background color you may use alot. For instance I had a customer that just loved his ivory colored letterhead paper. He wanted a pink and grey logo. I advised against this because the pink he wanted and the ivory will clash visually and make the logo appear discolored when printed on his inkjet printer (where he prints all his stuff) and will visually not have a good seperation between paper and image.)

the intended emotion the logo should convey (self explanatory)

I always ask my customers to write down three words that they want to pop into a customers head when they see the logo

so, there ya go, answering those questions will REALLY help anyone design your logo. Most people don't realize how much work and thought actually goes into most corporate logos and what not. It's all about messing with peoples heads.

This is what I imagined when you said this. I'm not a graphic designer, although I'm a design student, and I designed my Dad's logo.

It needs cleaning up though.

we also need a banner that will go across the top of a website that moves upwards so it says things on it like up and coming events as we plan to put on many events

and i do hope i can see a lot of you guys there when the big one takes place as there will be poi, staff and other stuff going on

we need to build a webpage also to hold info on and have a mailing list from it as im buying a web site domain name now just then need to rent a server
