Fire wool pois???

someone once told me how o make Wire wool pois
i wish o i wish i rememberd.
can someone help me.
caus i wanne do it. just once... or twice...

just bein a safety nazi here....you know how dangerous it is to do this and you have all the necessary precautions right?

yeah its pretty .
but obscenely dangerous.
you will end up swining two loosely contained balls of molten steel around your face,
which is a bit risky one could say

yeah dont do it unless you accept that you could finish your spin with some fairly big nasty scars. Of course nothing might go wrong but you never know....

besides that i always have 2 people both with fire extinguishers fully charged when i spin Steel wool
as well as only doing it after it rained and in a very large flat area
be safe... things will happen you just have to know how to respond

As a person who does Wire wool cages you are very limited to what you can do as a LOT of moves are just too dangerous.

As the Wire wool doesn't tend to latst all that long the only move that I feel in myself are safe enough for me to do as a performer is the butterfly and loops by my side as well as the weave and figure eight.

Just remember to try to keep them swinging away from your face so moves like the corkscrew where the poi will be swing towards your body are going to be too dangerous.

Wire wool cages is a cage made out of metal which we stuff Wire wool into and attach to chains.

Instead of wrapping it round the wicks. If you wrap Wire wool round your wicks you are risking certain destruction of your wicks.

Rather have Wire wool ruining my wicks I prefer the cages.

and then you hold the cage over fire until it goes redhot....

or not.........you make the cage out of a hardwire mesh..nasty stuff it tends to give you lots of little cuts as your making it but the pair that ive got has last me through probably 40 Steel wool burns and is still structurally(sp?) sound
my burns usually last around 5 minutes now that ive gotten everything figured out but i use a mix of different guages of wool and ive layered my cages so i get a longer burn. ive also had some rather nasty burns so i definately do not reccomend this to anybody unless you know exactly what your doing and take the necessary precautions.

such as.......
fire extinguisher/s-dont spin without them and a safety
a partner to back you up if you become a human candle
a fire blanket
a first aid kit
a burn kit
a cooler with ice/drinks so you can stay hydrated and so when you do burn yourself you can ice it down quickly
a backup safety so if your safety isnt paying attention you wont get screwed over
proper crowd spacing
sealable containers for fuel
double checking your fuel to make sure everything is sealed and nobody smokes anywhere nearby
knowing the burn characteristics of the fuel/s that your using
etc.....
for the wool proper crowd spacing is very important...you dont really want molten steel raining down on your audiance now do you?????
oh yeah and to start the wool i usually just put some white gas (colemans or naptha) on the wool and just light up..makes it quick and simple.

I cheated with my cages they were selling these cat toys in K-mart which were these steel cages that had a little fuzzy toy in them.

I pulled the toy out and then I had cages...hehehe...cheap and so easy to make!

I do have to agree with darkpoet though on this one it is more than just "let's go" it is a very dangerous thing to do so you not have to take care of your safety but everyone elses around you.

Please do not just do it because it is fun. If you are going to do it be aware of what you are doing and make sure you take ALL the proper precaustions

I can't stress that this is very dangerous...I mean you are flinging molten steel around...you may not give a damn about your safety but for everyone else around you it is better to be safe than sorry.

And trust me when it burns you it bloody hurts so you should definintely take ice and water with you to reduce scarring. And if you think you aren't going to get burnt think again!

Not trying to turn you off doing it just want you to be aware that's all.

cause when you spin at parties flash-(drug)heads are always way to close...

buteumm how large or small should the holes be??

aight on my cages the holes in the wiring are probably 1cm but they are a diamond shape so its hard to judge
just be smart about it
dont use anything w\huge holes
and dont use say fishnet size holes......find a happy medium, experiment with it on a small scale
my cages when full usually hold close to 16 pads of Steel wool
together that is...i put 8-10 pads of varying guages in layers to produce the proper effects
the longest burn time ive gotten is about 3-4 minutes
so far that is....im working on getting it to 10 but the only time ive gotten it anywhere near that long is when i layerd the cages themselves and it just comes to being a major pain in the ass...when i figure it all out ill definately post about it tho

does Wire wool not come in large plastic bags or long tigtly rolled ....rolls?

you unroll the rolls, and put them in the cages. Chicken wire works great

how long do the little sparkies stay hot? are the pretty much definately going to fly at you and burn tiny holes?

im in the states i dont know if they sell it differently but its a pad of wool...a small rectangular pad of wool that is wrapped around itself...sort of like those little bagel bite things that are square ish..
anyways i use a mix of pads in strips\layers its kinda hard to explain...if i could borrow a friends camera ill take pictures
and the sparks stay hot for a few seconds after they melt ur skin..
not that long..its the gobs of molten wool left in your cages that you need to worry about.....those will stay hot for quite some time

It depends where you come from and where you buy the stuff from. Here in Australia I can either buy the small pads, the large rolls or the smaller boxes of Wire wool all from the hardware store.

First Steel wool spin this weekend, mmmmm it's perty. I have a short video but I need to find hosting before I can post it. I got a couple decent pictures out of it too. It seems like I've heard different but it for me the heavier wool worked better than the fine stuff. I need to work on my method a little more, planning on doing it again next weekend

those things are nasty, messin with molten metal! got sum bad scars from it, but u make them from chicken wire mesh, best made around a can so u get the frame rite, then loop them 2 sum exsistin poi chain, when doin it wear boiler suit and baraclava sounds over safe but ul b thankful also u look kick ass wen u do it
