A fire trident will likely look like a staff with wick on one end...not really a great toy.
Unless you want tpo put wick on the three prongs, which sounds like fun, but i can't really seethe advantage of it...
guess I'm an old Slartibartfast thoug...

I'm the guilty party who put the idea of a fire trident into Flip's head, and the plan was to have a wick on each prong and one at the other side. We always see multiple wicks on toys but i think having them side by side would look interesting, given that the trident was positioned correctly. So long, and thatnks for all the fish!

Hmm, interesting. Ok, I'm going to have to try explaining what I mean without knowing the correct terms Anyway, first thing. A staff doesn't just spin end over end, but also rotates on a different axis as you spin it right? So if a trident was spun like a staff, the outermost points would be doing a kind of spiral around the centre one as it's spun. Therefore, if you had a trident with a wick on each point, you'd get really cool looking spiral trails, just as long as the flames coming off the wicks didn't all merge into 1 mega-large flame Thinking about it, if you can make a strong enough join to make a trident, why not go the whole hog and make one with 4 extra points rather than 2?

Oho, but it wouldn't be a trident anymore would it? It'd be a...quadradent or something. Or just a pitchfork. See, the have these handy little elbow joints for plumbing with mulitple openings that we though would be perfect.

it would be massively interesting to have one with three prongs at each end...lots of fire and perhaps some cool effects. ![[Weave]](graemlins/weavesmiley.gif)

yeah i started thinking of that since people don't seem to intrested in the regular trident idea i thought with a double ended trident the moves would look insane.

For most stable twirling characteristics I think the prongs would have to arranged like tripod at each end and not a fork, or you'd get eratic effects, especially in throws. In terms of construction, I was thinking that the simplest would be some sections of alu tube bashed flat on one end and bent to a tilde or lightning shape then hose clamped to the central staff section. Problem being that all 6 head pieces would have to identical or close as and well attached. Also this would make fully heavy heads, great for momentum though. But you could light one end and it could stand up on it's own! Starting moves with a free standing staff anyone?

Why not have the main staff, ie. one long prong in the middle, then have four extra wicks around it? A setup kind of like those big, glorious candelabra the beatutiful but tragic heroine wanders round with in gothic novels.

That sounds cool, if you were to attatch the prongs on though you would have to make sure they are welded on pretty fast or sumin bad could happen

You know what would look amazing with that sort of fork-like multi-wicked trident? A dance routine along the lines of what Fred Astaire (I think) did with his hat rack.
