(aka the 'i want to look like nick woolsey' post)

hey so.. i've been practicing my antispin weave flowers (the ones with both poi spinning foward (or reverse) while your arms swim a backstroke (forwardstroke)
i thought the hand-to-hand timing would fall into place..but it has not.

i can smoothly and consistantly move my arms through -- but the timing between the two hands is off -- -- the poi are not in split time.. they are somewhere inbetween follow and split depending on what part of the flower i'm on and how fast i'm going and how i'm trying to control the timing that day

so.. for those who have nice looking antispin weave flowers -- how do you control the timing?

i notice as i move my arms around the circle i feel partial isolations -- can this be used to establish proper hand-to-hand timing?
or
must i put on my splittime weave brain and think right-left-right-left as i flower?
or
any other tips? :-)

thanks
matt

Ditto.

Practice is really all that will help you smooth it out.

And if you think thats a pain, wait till you gotta learn how to keep split timing while turning it!

depends where your timing is off but it might actually look alright...

quarter-time antispin flowers look lovely for example...

if only i could do them like that on purpose

Is that quarter-time poi or arms?

I thought quarter time arms looked rubbish (anti-spun or not)

Hmmm - having looked at the picture, I'm guess poi - as yer arms are at 180

yeah that's quarter-time poi - by mistake

this was taken when i was just starting to 'get' antispin flowers.

i can't do them like this any more but have been getting petals to to be an 'x' rather than a '+' quite well recently.

i found that, unless you have magic shoulders, quarter-time arms created horrible turn necessities which i didn't like.

And don't make nice patterns either (in my minds eye at least)

Know what I'm going to be practising tonight
