I have been trying to sort out afew blood drives in my area one with the manchester spinners but that is not going so well just wanted to see if anyone else would like to come or would want info of how to start one in your area(uk omly tho)

I cannot give blood and have to admit this is better than some of the aggressive techniques which make me feel like crap because i can't.

things like people are dying for donors. I had a nurse at school have a go at me for not giving blood calling me selfish and evil...

Until I pointed out WHY my blood wasn't suitable.

I support blood donations and am a registered organ donor... although I dunno if that is affected by my inability to give blood.

apart from hating needles i went into shock last time i had a blood sample taken

I would love to, only I've recently had my tongue pierced and i think that means i can't for 6 months or something, but also im really scared of pricks

I am a regular donor but they wouldnt take may blood last week cos i had a cold sore.

Theres a hole string of things that mean you are ineligable.

I want to but can't because I only weigh 7 and a half stone (I'm a scrawny git) and have had piercings and tattoos recently. In a few mnths I might go back and put weights in my pockets. I'm a registered organ donor but also ride motorcycles so the likelyhood is that they'll be useless due to the splat factor of a motorcycle accident

actually, i find it extra amusing that "dont post why you can't give blood" is added when "tread" isnt.....

well at least im trying to do some good.i wanted to do better but i think i'll just give up no one seems to be that botherd so i'll just keep it up myself.have fun peeps

I don't think that its because people can't be bothered. In fact i expect there are a lot of people that would really want to give blood but the strict rules mean that they can't

In the hop community the percentage of people who are tattooed and pierced or have been to countries that mean they can't give blood is very high.

Star is right. The rules for giving blood are very strict and that means that lots of us can't for one of many reasons. The rules about countries, tattoos and weight are understandable but there are some others that seem a little daft.

wait... why would you not be able to give blood if you had a tattoo or a piercing? O.o.... it just seems strange unless theres some kind of life threatening thing about having them when you give blood. i mean there are people your trying to save and they worry about small things? I think its because getting a tatoo or a piecering increaes the chances of you getting an infection alot, and if you did get one then you would pass that infection on wich can be seriouse to people who need to recieve blood because there in a very weakend state if there getting a transfusion.

Well I imagine its something like that anyway.

to be honest i think all the rules are silly i know they're in place to protect the people who need the blood but if they took blood from everyone and did a full screen on every pint they took they would still be able to protect the people they are trying to protect and they would also get a lot more blood

i have given blood before but am also now not allowed to give blood ever again i think it sucks,

i know full blood screens are expensive but some people who give blood lie on the questionnaires about things that would disqualify them from donating so i think it is necessary anyway.

i myself know that even though due to the rules i can't give blood there is nothing wrong with my blood as i have had a full blood screen recently however this still doesn't allow me to donate its ridiculous.

all you HoPpers that are able to give then please support loki in trying to organise more blood drives as one day it may be you that needs the blood.

So blood isnt screend for nasty things then? Good lord thats rather careless hospitals might as well start re-using old needles if there going to be that careless with donated blood, thats crazy!
