----------- Spinning@... Update -----------
Dear all

we have moved to a new location.... se here for the new treead
http://www.homeofpoi.com/ubbthreads/show.../o/fpart/1/vc/1

see you at the rag factory..

this is why we have moved...

We had discussions in the pub on Tuesday regarding the use of the market for spinning@spitz and thanks to friends we have a much clearer idea of what’s going on:

Unfortunately we are not allowed back into the market for our workshops. It seems that while we have been out the market for the work, there has been a change of management. The new management appears to want to “increase the value” of the market area (gentrification is the term being used). This has led to many of the existing tenants not being invited to re enter the market, our selves included.

The st’georges residents association would have had no idea we would not be allowed back in, so although annoying its not their fault. We still have contacts in the market and we don’t want to cut out any future possibility of re-entering the market at a later date by kicking up a fuss, especially when there is no chance at all of us using the space in the current climate.

We need to do 2 things… 1. Find a temporary place to play ASAP… (see top) and 2. Find a permanent new home… to help us move forward we need your help. Please think of the people around you, be it your parents, friends, colleagues etc and see if there is anyone who may be able to finds us a new home… put the feelers out there.

If you find somewhere that fits our criteria (see below) then please get a contact name, a number or email and if appropriate, have a brief chat with them as a recommendation or personal contact makes a huge difference. If they are interested, forward their details to me and I will then chase it up.

We require an indoor or covered outdoor area with adequate lighting able to house up to 100 people on a Tuesday evening within 10mins from a tube and centrally located. We also require power to run a portable stereo.

On another note we have decided to have a Xmas party to raise some funds to help us secure a new spinning@..... ‘s venue. The confirmed date is Thursday 20th December in a Brixton from about 7.30 pm to 1 am. More details to follow.

Hopefully we will get sorted very soon and in the meantime we will meet at the poet next week and maybe look at ice skating, bowling or something else there after.

Huge hugs

Kev and the guys at spinning@.... ‘s

Hello again! [Smile]

Quiet music is being worked on right now - Ewan's scouting around for a Mac MP3 player at the moment, so we can have lots of different tracks.

Paraffin: I'm not sure. At the moment we are not insured for performing with fire and we thought that those who wanted to have a proper fire spin could come back to a park near my house (about 10 minutes walk away) to have a spin afterwards. There is usually some paraffin at my house!

Looking forward to seeing you there,

Hey there! [Smile]

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU!! to all who came down to the first Spinning night in Spitalfields market. I really enjoyed the crowd and the atmosphere and I hope you all did too.

A special thanks out to Bam Bam, Dom, Dave, Dizzy, Hazel and Smallboy, without whom the night wouldn't have been the same... (Thanks again Haze for gathering a possie together for us!)

And of course, the wonderful Ewan, who opens so many doors for me...thank you!

See you all Tuesday next week, if you can make it!

Cheers!

Hey there,

Wonderful Ewan here [Wink]

Just had to say a huge THANK YOU to all the smiling faces that turned up last night (and all those who wanted to but couldn't make it.) Simply thank you for taking the time to check it out [Smile] I'd wanted to keep it small for the first night to see how the word spread (and to not go out with a flash,) and we had a shed-load of people (inc. a birthday party and a friend of mine I've not seen for about 9years!) Really good night, and it was so cool that so many non-spinning people came to just have fun with their spinning friends. All far better than I'd feared it might be (was actually going to expand the area at one point (so not too bad for first day.))

Next week I'll see if I can get another couple of speakers, though the volume wasn't too bad I thought - background beat while still being able to talk naturally. And we'll probably rope off two quads instead of the one.
Apart from that. Yay! Erm and Yay!! again!!! [Smile]
Love it when a plan comes together (puffs on big chocolate cigar.)
So, every Tuesday until we run out of money (we were close to breaking even last night, which is far better than I'd feared.) Ahh, good point, as of next week I hope to have some funky sets of Poi to sell (if anyone's interested)- doesn't seem as though it'll be that easy to cover the rent with admission fees. So, off with the coordination hat and on with the mad and funky Poi hat.

Have a great week y'all,

Ewan [Smile]

Ewan and Carrey have done all us spinners / twirlers / nutters and everyone else who came or is thinking of coming along proud!

We all enjoyed a space filled with positive energy and happy smiling faces. I could hardly believe how many people turned up for the first night, and what a crowd. It was really nice being in a space where you could either learn or play, and with so many people skill sharing.

Tuesday nights are spinning nights again! so lets see all the London crew next week.

Bam

Ohh did anyone spot the majorette girl do the doubles? Fuckit she was good [Smile]

Yay, Tuesday again [Cool] [Cool]

Jazz - Howdy [Smile]
Did you make it down last week? And if not, this week? Staines is a bit of a distance but we've got good travel links at Liverpool St. + Sorry if you were there last week and I haven't recognised your name, there were quite a few peeps and I'm much better at hitting myself repeatedly in the head than remembering names (folds hands in contemplation of whether the two could possibly be related.)

If not then I hope we'll see you at Spinning in Clapham Common this Sunday? (Doubt you'd need to, but give me a bell if you need any details for it.)

Part from that, might have a larger area tonight as I think we'll need it.

Happy Tuesday y'all.

Helloo aaallll,

SmallBoy I want your job, what ever it is, I don't care, I'm just not getting enough HOP time at work [Big Grin]

Don't know the official name of the Clapham Common ting, but did notice the other day that it works out quite well as 'SICC' or 'SOCC.' - Spinning in or on Clapham Common. But check with Dom, he de man on dis.

Ahh Mr Fire, thank you, both for putting the music together, and for keeping your clothes on [Big Grin] Thinking about it, nudity should classify under both meteor and staff, (and Poi for the ladies perhaps,) even before you pick up your equipment as it were. [Eek!] (Ahh, quick thought - on the CD could you avoid (I know, I'm sorry) anything too offensive, just that we're attracting kids and members of the public... (SorrE.) But really really nice one for the effort.)

Ahh, while we're on it, and it can't happen tonight but... We're definitely going to have a... a... Classical evening!!!!!!!!! I know I know, please don't all cheer at once, and I know it's a lovely blouse that I'm wearing. But seriously, it can be so cool. The ups, the downs, changes in tempo. -It'll do wonders for your ability to improvise/ to not get stuck in a rut simply because it can be so changeable.) Had a bit of a spin to Vivaldi's Four Seasons (at an open-air concert that Carrey dragged me to (bitch! Stop improving my life!!))a bit ago and, well, it… just… has… to… happen.

News of the week - the bladers have moved their night to another (Monday I think) so we could move to the other end of the market. Good points are - larger, flatter space and further from the bar [Smile] . Bad points are - further from the bar [Razz] Ooo, and with that flatter space, if anyone fancies joining me - if we are at that end tonight I’ll be bringing my blades for a bit of RollerPoiBoyJoy (hey, didn’t expect that to work.) S’great fun if you can manage it, and it’s probably easier than it might sound – your brain can’t process both at the same time so you just go with it. The results are great fun.

Don't know what to do about this but I'm up for suggestions - some people would prefer not to have the potential onlookers, and others quite like the blend we have of Poi and sociability. Hmm, we'll see tonight, and we can always change back.

FunkE then, ahh, last thoughts –
Lolli, yay, great to see you again last week. Think you said something about going on holiday (?) but if so/ not, hope you’ll be back.
HerbyBiscuits - good man!! Nice one for making it down, always the more the merrier, and I’m really hoping you’ll be making it merrier tonight.
AliBird – Sorry you and yo man can’t make it tonight, but there will be others, ohohoho yeesss... And yay for Hazel!!
Hazel!! Yay!!! You're cool (but I can't stand your in friends [Razz] )
Stickman!! Where are yooouuu? Still haven’t been able to make a funky set of small Poi for yours yet but it is going to happen, and in the mean time we have enough toys and moves to keep her entertained/ confused for hours (if not days.)

So, Happy TuesdaE y’all.

Hope it all goes off well tonight [Big Grin] I must admit I quite like being near the bar but as long as we can still go and get drinks from it(?) I don't think anyone will mind!

Stickman is in Spain at the moment at the Benicassim festival (if we are talking about the same guy!) but I'm sure he'll show his face in the next couple of weeks!

After you left last night SpaceMonkE I had my first go with fire and it ROCKED! I've gotta get me some paraffin! (And some covers for my now very sooty staff ends [Big Grin] )

see you next week!

Ali xx

Didn't make it, went on a mission to steal my brother's X-Box instead, so that's me gone for a few weeks!

Ali-bird, cool to be at your (and so many others!) fire baptism! To be honest, I didn't realise it was your first time as normally people don't spin that confidently first time. Looked very good!

See you all next week! Or Sunday at Clapham Common!
