i learnt this kewl move by accident,
when you do the heilcopter then use contact with one of the grip sticks 2 make it move around,
i was trying to do a triple spin with contact but i slowed it down a little
and on the second spin i used contact with my arm (exact same move as the stick with your arm)
then for the third spin its like a neck spin on staff then you catch it on the other grip stick,

wot do you think? can i improve it?

Sounds nice!

I saw someone the other day do a nice devil stick trick, though i've no idea how he did it.. Know that plate trick, where you put it on your hand, the turn your hand under your arm and round, keeping the plate upright? He was doing that with devil stick and one grip. You just reminded me

wooo... devil stick post, what a coincidence that i unearthed mine just yesterday (primarily to practise my staff twirling technique as I haven't got one of them yet...), however i quickly remembered why I haven't used it in so long and it's basically because I'm RUBBISH!!! it's seems that any trick i do is completely by accident and I have absolutely no control over the damn thing!! should i be expecting to be able to control it, or is devil stick actually just a case of trying to keep it in the air?? anyone got any tips or links to devil stick websites? I'm sure I used to have a book but it's been lost in the sands of time.....

should i be expecting to be able to control it

Yes You'' have problems with tricks if you can't maintain it in the air. Hand sticks (in my experience) should be parrallel to each other and the ground. If you open them out or point your handsticks towards the ground, the devil stick will fall off the end, if you point them towards you or up in the air you'll get hit. Once you can control THAT....

oh man... and there i was thinking i could just get away with chucking it around what a pain in the arse there's actually skill involved...

I did a bit of practise earlier for a good hour or so and managed to get it going for a little while, will have to practise some more. That is a very useful tip though thanks. although I seem to mess up the rhythm of hitting it quite often as well and just drop it..... I'm really rubbish........

so here's my challenge of the week, control devil stick

okay- try this one on for size- start by doing a regual horizontal spin with one stick on yer right hand. Then flip the devil stick in the air & catch the devil stick with yer left hand, on the right side , behind yer back (making the devil stick stall for a brief moment in time.) To finish, give the devil stick a toss and while the devil stick is in the air, spin yer body around 360 degrees and catch the devil stick on what ever hand you can then give the crowd a big-ass grin!

woo!!! I actually kept it going for a significantly increased amount of time to what i could do before!! but I'm going to continue working on that before i start doing twiddly things.

Meepette - the german website with the videos is really useful... um... for my brother... he took one look and is now tossing the flippin' thing round, like there are no rules of gravity! I'm just happy i got it off the ground...

try getting the helicopter going then throw it as high as you possibly can. easy as nothing else to catch (just stick a handle in the middle as it falls) and it really impresses crowds if you can get them up 30 or 40 feet ..

easiest way i have found to look good .. sway at it .. sway from one side to the other as you hit the stick .. it looks fluid and natural .. kinda like contact juggling where it looks like you got control but all yer really trying to do is keep underneath the bloody thing!

from helicopter to contact on one stick .. if you get the speed right, you can contact the stick under your arm and around behind your back if you're willing to practise (and lose arm hair if you try with fire)
this is a VERY hard trick with fire-devils, due to the weight of the damned things. easier with juggling devils with extra rubber grip on them.

what else i do with the devil is i will stall the thing an inch away from someone's nose .. but then i have good hand-eye co-ordination and i have still burned a few eyebrows .. always fun

tip of the day --> never stand above a fire-breather .. DAVID !!!

by the way .. if you can't handle the heat, get out of the smegging fire-circle. I'm sick of twirlers complaining about burns. we PLAY with FIRE !!! what the smeg do you expect to happen? sheez
