I'm going to bring trepanation back into style

Trepanation is a procedure that involves the removal of a section of bone from the cranium. Many tribes throughout the world used to do this ceremonially and medically, and trepanned specimens are usually found to have been partially healed over.

I think that having a hole in my head would be kind of neat. If all goes according to plan, in 20 years you won't be considered "hardcore," no matter how many peircings or tatoos you have, until you get your skull trepanned.

Thoughts?

theres something that makes me shudder at the thought of putting a neat little hole in the thing that is meant to protect my brain. maybe its just me but i dont see why you'd weaken your own biological defenses.

as you said, the cultures that did it performed it for either medical reasons or as part of a ritual.. from what you wrote, it seems like you are doing it just to seem cool.

so I ask again, why?

I wrote an assay about it when I was about 12... I found it strangely fascinating then, but I really wouldn't want it done

(I'm not pierced, tattoed or branded either... I think being a diabetic is self-mutilation enough, it probably kept me from liking the idea of someone else poking holes in my body, too )

Interesting concept... *reminds self to go down to the local tattoo and piercing shop and ask if they do trepanation*

I'm not getting any holes in my skull.........then it'll be too easy for the Zombies to get my brains when they start taking over the world...........

ooh, could you put a small LED in there, and wire up batteries and stuff, so you flick a switch, and this part of your head lights up?

How uber awesomeness would that be?

How big is the hole? like Pin Hole, Pencil, Pool Ball, Bowling Ball, would it increase tv recption if you put tin foil in it?

Could you implant chunks of something (silicone perhaps) between your skull and your scalp to change the shape of your head? Having reptilian ridges on a bald head would go well with the split tongue.

or maybe the nose is for small coinage and the hole is for retriving, maybe the trend was started by a tribes man who was constantly putting pennys up his nose, maybe he worked in a bank and slowly stole the banks richs?
