Ok, here's the deal, I want to get a video camera, probably new with warranty. Want it to be digital so I can edit on the 'puter at home, and am going to be using it mainly for:
a) recording outdoors at fire meets etc.
b) recording documentary style reports, which will probably involve visiting some archaeological sites, which rarely have the greatest storage areas (i.e a tent)

So I'm thinking, I need something fairly durable, but still want a decent video quality. What do you guys think? I know sfa but I trust you lot more than some dude in a video store to give me a few guidelines.

Oh yeah, and what sort of stuff do I need to edit on a computer?

Cheers dudes

I concur, you would save yourself much time if you did a durb...

A search has been renamed 'a durb' in honor of durbs passion for the search.... the grouchy credit is yours

The fact that durbs suck his head in here with his toungue out is incidental. He has no control over this...

sorry did do a quick search but not for 'DV camera'. Many apologies for being yet another person who should've searched harder

one thing to look for with the newer digital cameras too that's extremely useful, is DV IN/OUT and AV Input capabilities. This lets you use your camera as kind of a capture device for your computer

lesson from my experience: DO NOT buy a JVC.

you can search all over the internet for advice/product comparisons etc. if you want more than one opinion. But to summarize: when it comes down to digital recording and then transferring the digital vid to a computer, the JVC is nearly impossible to work with, and they don't provide ANY support. Save yourself the nightmare and go with something else. I returned the JVC and got a panasonic and am pleased with it. And I've heard great things about the new Canon
