Check out this craziness

Satellite pics of a 900x700m model of a mountainous region on the disputed Indo-Chinese border.

What the hell is it for? The site i found it on reckons its for training helicopter pilots, but I don't quite see how...

Boring? i disagree...

The Chinese authorities say its a facility for putting tanks and tank drivers through their paces.

How does that work on a 1:500 scale model?

And why is it a representation of a particular area of the Indo-Chinese border?
(which Chinese authorities have not commented on, despite the fact it blatantly is - check pics in my first link)

Maybe it's to help drivers familiarise themselves with the landscape, but it seems an awful lot of expense to go to for a glorified map.

I don't think I could remember all that, and then apply my memory to something 500 times bigger.

Wouldn't a map help them out a bit more? Or GPS?

Also, I wouldn't like to drive a tank over that lot. I think It'd get stuck, or fall off someting.

Maybe they are exapnding on the foot binding idea and making mini people?
